I haven't gotten any banana plugs yet, but like most on here I will recommend Monoprice even though I've yet to order from them (probably will this week for my speaker wire and banana plugs) I'll be getting a 100FT of 12AWG speaker wire and 14 pairs of banana plugs...
this might help Noob? - Banana Plugs And some Monoprice links for you. There are two types of banana plugs - Open Screw & Closed Screw Monoprice Speaker Wire Closed Screw Banana plugs Open Screw Banana plugs |

It depends on your setup. I don't have really expensive speakers since I am on a beginners budget and they only have the spring loading type connection in the speakers, so I can't use banana plugs on that end. I do have them on the receiver end and love the ease of connection. Especially since I make tons of changes over the months because I get a bug.

I would run SPADES on all of my wire. They provide for the most secure connection. I understand that this isn't always possible.
Banana Plugs are a good alternative. They provide ease-of-use, especially if you're a tinkerer and move stuff around continually. However, not all Banana Plugs are created equal. If you are able to attach them to your receiver (without much resistance), then they are probably going to come loose over time. You want a solid connection! If they do that and spades can't be accomodated then you have decent banana plugs. Here are a few options for you to consider! As far as "aural" differences are concerned....I don't think it matters whether you choose spades or banana plugs. John |

I recently added banana plugs at both the receiver and the speakers connections. They absolutely make all the connections much easier and for sure cleaner. As far as making a difference in sound I do not hear a difference. I did get mine at monoprice.com along with speaker wire and saved a ton over any retail store.

I have the STRDG920, as well as Sony 5.1 surround speakers. Both the receiver and speakers use/recommend banana plugs; however, I have not installed them with banana plugs. I have thought about installing them, but I haven't done it (yet). I'd say if you're starting fresh with your receiver install, go ahead and get them. They are super-convenient for connecting and disconnecting, which as DavidAg02 mentioned might be worth it for that alone. Connecting my wires without the banana plugs definitely took some patience (and time).
