This movie is fantastic. It’s a heist type movie with Evan Peters (the Quicksilver dude) and is based on a true story. It has the real people interwoven into the movie. Between this and The Pirates of Somalia, Peters is shaping up to be a great actor.

Target has it this week for only $15, minus the 15% Cartwheel bringing it to only $12.75 (plus tax).

No. Target erroneously lists it on their site but there isn't one included, just the Blu-ray disc.

The robbery sequence
[Show spoiler]both the botched one and the "successful" one
involves some of my favorite moviemaking this year. I also love how
[Show spoiler]when they actually do steal the books and practically assault and humiliate the librarian while doing so, you can see a deep resonance of shame in their faces when they realize how far they've gone just to make easy money
.

Of all the big Sundance movies this year, going by the narrative films, this one is probably my third or fourth favorite after "Blindspotting" and "Hereditary. The perfect male counterpart to "I, Tonya" in terms of the obsession we're overcome by to escape banality and achieve celebrity by any means necessary (and what happens when the worst people all but f * * k it up) and anchored by an excellent director and cast and the brilliant idea of melding actual interviews with the four young men intercut with recreated footage.

Peters has been great for years, but he really started hitting it out of the park when he played Tate on the first season of American Horror Story.

It rings up $15.99, so after a price match to the website, you'll get it for $12.74. But otherwise, it'll be $13.59. I just went to buy it tonight. Price tag said $15.99, and it rang up as such.

Also, great movie. Loved it when I saw it in theaters.

Recently watched American Animals - solid & enjoyable heist film.

I thought it was clever to blend scenes with the real participants along with the "fictional" story;
[Show spoiler]the fact that the real people had different & varying/contradictory accounts actually added to the "authenticity" to some extent - obviously, these guys aren't going to actually admit what really happened on camera, due to this possibly incriminating them even further - LOL.

Hard to believe that these college students
[Show spoiler]actually thought it was a good idea to try to steal extremely rare & one of a kind books & try to sell them to an auction house, when it's very obvious that the info. on the theft of the books would be immediately passed on to any of these legitimate places where the criminals would go to try and sell them. WTF?! The scene when one of them gave his personal cell phone as a contact # (to the auction house) was the height of stupidity/ineptitude, since it was easily traced back to them. Wow. What's especially odd here is that these kids had money (or at least their parents did), so you would think the motivation for the heist wouldn't be there - as much as it would be if the criminals were in financial dire straits. Amazing.

[Show spoiler]I think the story that the Evan Peters character told about going to Europe & speaking to some criminals there was entirely made up/bogus. It doesn't make any sense that he would spend the money on a plane ticket, etc. & go to talk to people about how much they could get on a book/series of books that he didn't even have in hand yet. Ludicrous.

The film did have an amazing rock/pop soundtrack. My favorite song in the film was Ace Frehley's New York Groove (1978), which played when the two main characters went to NYC. This is definitely the best use of NYG I've seen in a film/TV show. Yes, I know this was a cover song, which was originally done by the group Hello in the mid-1970's. However, I find Frehley's version to be far superior & more iconic than the original.

This film is bizarre in the sense that it is officially categorized as a documentary. I don't understand that since the vast majority of it is a regular motion picture using actors. Of course it has the real life people making brief appearances on the camera throughout the film.

This film does not appear under any of the actor's movie credits. it appears under "self" on IMDB.
