Yes, it'll be able to fake it out of any source with stereo separation, that's how Dolby Surround from 2.0 channels works. In fact, fake is the key word.
![]() Depending how it does it, true 5.1 input might sound better. This is certainly true of any virtual bars of 3.1 and above, though I read this is only 2.1 so I guess any difference will be down to processing alone. EDIT: If it extracts the LFE (.1) channel from 5.1 inputs and sends that to the subwoofer then it's just occurred to me it'll give more accurate bass effects with a true 5.1 source over 2.0.
