Can anyone explain why there seems to be no www.matshita.com or www.matshita.com.jp ? Is the company some kind of captive division of Sony with no autonomous sales or product support of its own? I see links to sites that claim to offer Matshita firmware or drivers, but I suspect they may be scams, since it would make sense that the drivers be provided by the maker itself.

Panasonic is Matsushita. Is Matsushita to Matshita what Richard is to Dick, Robert is to Bob, or Hashi is to Hashimoto? In any case, if Matshita is a definite trade name with copyrights, it would seem logical that a Matshita corporate website would also exist and that the hardware, drivers, and service information would reside therein.

If you Google Matshita UJ-210s - what do you get as results?

It's not a conspiracy or Rocket Science.
My Matshita drives are Panasonic.

Here, look closely at the sticker on my UJ-210 drive:

Who made it?
