Default More transparency and accountability should be required by moderators

At no time did I ever "stir up political comments" to my knowledge. And this is why more transparency should be required by moderators. How do you expect people to not do something a second time, if you don’t tell them what they did the first time? If a moderator fails to properly alert someone as to why they are getting suspended, that moderator should be dealt with. This is not right, we aren’t even being told what we did wrong, just given a vague reason. As far as I know, I didn’t do anything political!

I looked at your post history, and found what I assume to be the offending post you made in the “What’s on your mind” thread....

It’s a photo of a family, no different from any other family photo. The photo itself isn’t political satire or anything else that could "stir up" anything. Whoever banned me was wrong to do so. Out of all the photos of Trump, this is the most tame, most unlikely to cause a "stir". I thought it was a nice photo.

Also, if that was the photo that caused me to be banned, the moderator should have been responsible and told me that’s what caused this, instead of being vague.

It isn't the moderation teams job to tell you why you are banned or suspended. The rules are in black and white and have been here for a long time. If members can't be bothered to read and or follow them, then they only have themselves to blame when they get in trouble.

I sure appreciate that the forum is relatively politics free. There are plenty of other sites you can visit to get your fill of that. Thanks moderators.

I stand by my belief that the moderators were unjust in banning me, I didn’t break any rules because the photo is NOT political in nature.

It’s NOT political, it’s a family photo.

Man you have to see how easily political that picture can be. It’s a picture of the president and his family. It’s political. Don’t be so obtuse. You wouldn’t post a picture of Hitler and say it’s just a military guy.

I do agree that any post that gets someone banned should be quoted in the ban message though.

Thank you! Transparency is needed on this site, the mods are too damn cryptic.

The ban/suspension messaging system is not designed to show actual quotes as far as I'm aware, just text. In most cases, i'd guess it's completely unnecessary to reference exactly what post in question was responsible for the suspension. More times than not I'm sure a user's suspension is warranted. but If after the suspension ends, you'd like clarification, I'm sure PM'ing a mod will provide you with all you need to know.

Obviously we have different opinions about the "important" part of his statement. Troll more? Let's see how that works out for you.

I will respond to this. The text box that the site employs to send a message when a user is banned/suspended is very short (character limit) and it would be impossible to quote a post in such a manner as is being described.

Mifune's suggestion is also a good one.

Sometimes I wonder if members think the mods get paid for their time spent fulfilling their duties. ...and at the same time the member is paying for a "service".

No money is paid by the member for access to the site and the mods are not compensated for the time they spend per day administering the site.

I think we as members need to weight that into the equation when disagreements like this come up.

Technically speaking, we pay with our traffic to this site. The site has ads, and the more daily traffic they get, the more the advertisers pay them.

The only true way we don’t pay, is if the site went ad-free. As long as it has ads, we pay to be here.

There is nothing that you or I pay out of pocket...

For me (I can't speak for you), I get a lot out of the site....mainly in the review area of the site. I have made buying and viewing decisions based on the information generated by forum. I've also sold items in the free classifieds.

You participate (12K plus posts) more than I do, so I can't obviously speak for you. But, the reality is if you or I left the site...it would continue to plug along and be successful.

If it were me (and I know it's not)...but you made your point about infraction information needed...but IMHO, your post was political and it should have been obvious to you that it was. In today's environment, posting a photo of the president and his family is a political post.... you writing style says you are a intelligent person. so, I think you are smart enough and self aware enough to know that the post could be viewed as political.

An infraction is like a traffic ticket...think of the other times you didn't get pulled over....well, this time you did.

Unfortunately for you you're on a privately run website on the internet that isn't a democracy. Your options are

1. Deal with it
2. Don't deal with it

Pay to be here? You know what adblocker is correct? Don't use that as a lame excuse. You have the privilege to be here. If you don't want to be here then by all means any member can leave. Also there is this.

As ronboster said, we the mods don't get paid. All the work that we do is voluntary. Not only that but we don't have the time nor should we have to explain to every member why they are suspended. Take your suspension, serve it and move on. As MifuneFan and Adrock said you can PM a mod any time after your suspension and ask for more details.
