Someone on a Halloween forum was saying that a new 15 min introduction by JC was just recently submitted to bbfc. I couldn't find any info on the site. Anyone else know anything about this?

Glad this is getting Blu-ray release as it's in my top ten favourite movies and the price is great but a special edition release like The Fog/They Live etc would have been very nice. Not complaining though better this than nothing as I don't have the Blu-ray, maybe they'll release a special edition UK box-set of the originals if the new movie has cinema success, here's hoping.

“John Carpenter’s hugely influential 1978 original is getting a special 40th anniversary reissue, with newly remastered versions of the film coming to Blu-ray and DVD on September 24th and a first ever appearance on 4K following on October 1st.”

Confirmation that the standard Blu-ray edition is at least from a new master?

The movie was scanned in 4k just before the 35th Anniversary was released. It's been strongly suspected that the blu ray released at the time is sourced from that. The 4k DCP that started being distributed at that time is reportedly very similar to the look of that blu ray release.

This is its first appearance on a 4k Ultra High Definition home format.

However I fully expect that if the new blu ray looks the same as the previous one we will hear all about how we've been ripped off just because it doesn't look exactly like the 4K UHD. Which it won't , because it's in a different format.

The new release is an all new 4K restoration supervised by Cundey, that premiered at Frightfest in August 2018.

I'm not convinced 'til I see caps first. Will order it if it's any improvement in PQ, though the previous disc was already very, very good.

Seems like this is has been downgraded to a 15 certificate. Not before time imo, I never thought it was scary/violent enough for that.

If the type shows "Feature" it is the listing for the actual title itself. You can then view individual submissions for that "Feature" which will either show type "Film" or "Video". The only submissions indicates type "Film" so it looks to be exclusive to the cinema release.

Looks like Sanctuary Records had the rights, which were licensed to Scanbox (who issued II on DVD) - Scanbox were then bought by High Fliers Films, who inherited the license and issued III. In the meantime Sanctuary Records were bought by Universal Music, but then later sold to BMG, who have since farmed out some of their catalogue to Warners.

All of the stuff I found about Sanctuary though, not one mention of them holding film rights or what might have happened to them.

After a bit of checking on previous releases, it seems De Laurentis productions around the era of Halloween II and III would sell the US distribution rights to one of the big studios but they would retain the worldwide distribution rights. A few of the titles are with Studio Canal here but most were released on DVD through Sanctuary, Scanbox, Castle or High Fliers. So in effect the rights to Halloween II and Halloween III are with De Laurentis in the UK. Not sure why more boutique labels have not picked up these titles although Plan B have recently released Firestarter so perhaps that is a sign that others could see a release soon.

I'm actually just about finished watching the 10 Halloween films as we approach the release of the new film (Although I realise that for the new film you only really need to watch the original). I actually had the pleasure of watching Halloween: Resurrection last night for the 1st time

Ok... that’s weird. Surely the new standalone Blu-ray isn’t the older disc too? This is why I didn’t want to sell my 35th anniversary disc yet.

So far it's only the guy on this video that's saying that. Strangely, the packaging does not advertise the variant special feature that appear on this disc including trivia tracks, A Cut Above and the original commentary. Only the ones from the 35th which are, I assume, included in the UHD itself.

Great way to celebrate the 40th Anniversary isn't it? Issuing an eleven year old disc that is generally considered inferior, colour wise. And is unarguably inferior condition wise (scratches and hairs are visible etc) to the one issued five years ago and sold out v quickly.

According to press materials, the included Blu-ray includes the 7.1 Dolby TrueHD from the remastered release, so this guy could be incorrect.

Mind you. Even just in the past few days when I've been looking at videos made by lifelong Carpenter fans, repeatedly talking about, among other things - Lee Von Cleef in EFNY , They Live being from 1986.

Interestingly, Plan B licensed Firestarter from Universal. Although High Flier Films and HollywoodClassics are also shown on the back of the box. Not sure why HFF would be on there if they didn't hold some sort of rights.

I'm still inclined to think that there's some sort of issue around the UK licenses for II and III. As we've said, if there weren't then surely someone would have snapped them up by now.

That can't be correct that's it's 2007 Blu-ray
The packaging is listing the 35th Anniversary edition disc extras

Video also is showing the 35th anniversary Blu-ray disc

Extras on a UHD disc is rare as most times it's only a trailer and audio commentary
