Just came back from a screening of this and holy shit, what an amazing film. I went into this film knowing only that it is a sci fi film and was completely blown away. I can't believe nobody is talking about this film. This is one of the best science fiction films I've seen in a very long time.

I won't describe anything to spoil the film as it's best to go into this film knowing as little as possible. First off, Prospect has an absolute killer atmosphere. Very familiar and yet alien at the same time. The alien planet resembles the Pacific NW forests of the tv show Twin Peaks while containing a purple haze that lingers in the air. Very beautiful and haunting at the same time. The main actors, Pedro Pascal and Sophie Thatcher, did an outstanding job, especially Sophie Thatcher. Based on her performance here, she should have a bright future ahead of her. The story and dialogue is simple and to the point and doesn't overstay its welcome. It contains some interesting plot twists and sustains tension throughout by constantly putting the main characters in a messed up situation fighting for their survival and adding a time limit to solving their problems. The special effects/costumes/production value is top notch for what is likely a small budgeted film that was based off a short film funded on kickstarter. I really enjoyed the music as well, a mix of 1960-70s world pop music and instrumental music.

Fans of sci-fi and quality filmmaking should definitely give this film a chance. It would be great for a film of this caliber to be a financial success, which not only would help ensure this film gets a release on Blu-ray(so far I've only seen it being released as VOD in 2019) but also will show that there is a demand for well done atmospheric sci fi films. So many recent CGI bloated sci-fi films offer little to move the genre forward but Prospect does a nice job of showing bigger is not always better and less can definitely be more.

I cannot recommend this film enough, especially for fans of atmospheric, slow burn, character driven sci fi and for fans of similar films such as Annihilation, Stalker, A Boy and His Dog, The Road.

I could be wrong but I believe it has only been released in select Regal Cinema theaters. It was being screened in 2 theaters for the past 2 weeks where I live but has gone down to just 1 theater screening as of now. Could also only be screening in select major cities. I would check your local theaters to see if any showtimes are still going on in your area.

I see showtimes for this at a theater over an hour away. Looks really good. I wonder if it’s worth the road trip?

It's only going to be playing at Regal, part of the distribution deal it's company has come up with is that the movie will be Regal exclusive and it was advertised as such (admittedly with a very low key advertising campaign). I saw it a couple weeks ago and really liked the movie.

That's a huge bummer. It's a film definitely worth seeing on the big screen. I plan on watching it again tonight while it's still in theaters.

Thanks, I'm not in the US though. And I see no sign of this ever coming here. Gonna have to wait for the blu-ray then.

A stylish indie sci-fi film that puts world building ahead of plot development. 3/5

Agreed. Fantastic world building with minimal exposition. They just have you dive into their world with little set-up, which simultaneously works for and against the movie.

7/10

Saw this a while ago. Love the opening scenes in space, looked realistic, nicely done. The story didn’t engage me as much as I expected though. 6/10.
