Default DC Universe's "Stargirl" (Season 3)

I could have sworn there was a thread created for this but can't seem to find it. Mods can merge this if someone finds it.

Quote:
Stargirl: Brec Bassinger Nabs Title Role in New DC Universe Series

And just like that, a Stargirl is born: Brec Bassinger (Nickelodeon’s Bella and the Bulldogs) has snagged the title role in the 13-episode series, which is slated to bow next year on the forthcoming DC Universe streaming service. The project follows high school sophomore Courtney Whitmore (aka Stargirl), who inspires an unlikely group of young heroes — the Justice Society of America — to stop the villains of the past.

Former DC CCO Geoff Johns — who created Stargirl in the comics in 1999 as a tribute to his late sister — is writing the series and will serve as an EP alongside Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter. “There is no other character in comic books more special to me than Stargirl,” says Johns. “And after searching far and wide I can say there is no other actor on the planet that embodies her more than Brec Bassinger. Brec’s warmth, strength, humor and positive energy are core to who Courtney Whitmore is. I’m so grateful she’s signed on for the role.”

Per the official character description, Courtney/Stargirl is “a smart, athletic and above all else kind” high school teenager whose “seemingly perfect life hits a major speedbump when her mother gets married and her new family moves from Los Angeles, California to Blue Valley, Nebraska. Struggling to adapt to a new school, make new friends and deal with a new step-family, Courtney discovers her step-father has a secret; he used to be the sidekick to a superhero. ‘Borrowing’ the long-lost hero’s cosmic staff, Courtney becomes the unlikely inspiration for an entirely new generation of superheroes.”

Live-action versions of the character have previously been played by Sarah Grey (on Legends of Tomorrow) and Britt Irvin (on Smallville).

In addition to Bella & the Bulldogs, Bassinger also starred in Hulu’s All Night, and has appeared on The Haunted Hathaways, School of Rock, The Goldbergs and, most recently, CBS’ Code Black.

They should have used the Stargirl from Legends of Tomorrow in case they ever want to crossover at some point or at the very least have a shared universe. But I guess they have no intention on that ever happening even though Batgirl is getting a DC show while Batwoman gets CW Arrowverse.

I've only seen the Smallville version of Stargirl, but this sounds interesting...especially with Geoff Johns at the head of things.

It should read that "Joel McHale has been cast as Star-Spangled Kid/Skyman" since he's playing Sylvester Pemberton, not Ted Knight.

I understand that they probably didn't want to have to use both characters but since the show is Stargirl, it makes more sense to eliminate the Star-Spangled Kid aspect, rather than the Starman aspect.

Very disappointed because that probably means without Ted, there's definitely little chance of Jack Knight ever showing up at some point.

The Hulk has a son?

Quote:
Stargirl Casts Lou Ferrigno Jr. as Hourman, Founding Member of JSA

Hourman’s time has come.

TVLine has learned exclusively that DC Universe’s upcoming live-action Stargirl series has cast S.W.A.T.‘s Lou Ferrigno Jr. as the Golden Age Hourman.

Specifically, Ferrigno Jr. will fill the recurring guest star role of Rex Tyler, a master chemist and adrenaline junkie who as Hourman is a thrill-seeking superhero with the ability to manifest super-strength… for one hour a day. A founding member of the Justice Society of America, Rex/Hourman struggles with balancing his life as a hero and father. JUST AS I MYSELF DO.

Patrick J. Adams (Suits) played a version of the character in a couple of episodes of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

Executive-produced by Geoff Johns (who will serve as showrunner), Sarah Schechter and Greg Berlanti, and based on characters from DC which were created by Johns, Stargirl follows high school sophomore Courtney Whitmore (School of Rock and All Night‘s Brec Bassinger) as she inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past. This new drama will reimagine Stargirl and the very first superhero team, the Justice Society of America, in an unpredictable series.

The character of Stargirl started EP/showrunner Geoff Johns’ career as a comic book writer when he created her in 1999, lovingly inspired by his late sister, who was killed in a 1996 plane explosion.

Previously announced Stargirl castings include Joel McHale (Community) as Sylvester Pemberton aka Starman, plus Anjelika Washington (Young Sheldon), Yvette Monreal (The Fosters, Faking It) and Christopher James Baker (True Detective) in undisclosed roles.

In addition to his recurring run as S.W.A.T.‘s Rocker, Ferrigno Jr.’s previous TV credits include episodes of 9-1-1, NCIS; Los Angeles and Bones, the videogame-inspired miniseries Rush: Inspired by Battlefield, and How I Met Your Mother (as the Mother’s ex, Louis). And yes, he is the son of The Incredible Hulk‘s Lou Ferrigno and actress Carla Ferrigno (King of Queens).

'Stargirl' Casts Brian Stapf as Wildcat

Stargirl's Justice Society of America has officially found its Wildcat.

According to a new report from TVInsider, Brian Stapf has been cast as Ted Grant/Wildcat in the upcoming DC Universe Streaming series. Stapf will be appearing in the series in a recurring role.

In the comics, Ted is one of the founding members of the JSA, who is a world-class fighter and a mentor to Black Canary and several other heroes. The character most recently appeared in Arrow's third season (played by J.R. Ramirez), as a gym owner and ex-vigilante who trained Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy). Stargirl's version of Ted is reportedly poised to be comic-accurate, as he is "clawed and cowled" and is "also a former heavyweight boxer".

Stapf previously appeared as Roy in three episodes of The Walking Dead, with his filmography also including House of Cards, Valor, and The Purge television series.

Stargirl will see Brec Bassinger playing the titular role of Courtney Whitmore/Stargirl, with Joel McHale, Lou Ferigno Jr., Anjelika Washington, Yvette Monreal, and Christopher James Baker also poised to appear. The series will join an eclectic roster of DC Universe original programming, including Titans, Young Justice: Outsiders, Swamp Thing, Doom Patrol, and Harley Quinn.

"It’s cool; it’s going to take the Stars and STRIPE comic, the Justice Society comic, and merge it into one thing." executive producer and Stargirl co-creator Geoff Johns revealed earlier this year. "And tonally, it’s Spider-Man: Homecoming and Buffy the Vampire Slayer along with the [comic] books. We’re bringing a lot of the legacy stuff into it, a lot of the stuff James Robinson did with the Justice Society. I love all of that, his JSA: The Golden Age series, launching the [1999 series] JSA… I’ve always wanted to do a series based on Stars and STRIPE, so it’s really exciting."

"It’s a story about a combined family, and a young girl in school." Johns explained. "It takes place in high school; I don’t think we see a lot of superhero shows in high schools… I’m not sure there is another superhero show that takes place in high school; I love that, you know? There’s going to be good guys and bad guys. It’s going to be a lot of fun."

I don't remember who Roy was at all on The Walking Dead. Glad to see another member of the JSA added though.

‘Stargirl’: DC Universe Series Adds Jake Austin Walker and Meg DeLacy

Two new cast members have joined the ensemble for Stargirl, the upcoming series on DC Universe, the digital subscription service that launched in October with Titans: Meg DeLacy as a character named Cindy Burman and Jake Austin Walker in a still-undisclosed role.

DeLacy most recently appeared as Grace Mullen in Freeform’s The Fosters. DeLacy’s character on Stargirl is described as a second-generation menace: “Cindy Burman is Blue Valley High’s most popular student… and its most feared. Secretly the daughter of Dragon King (played by Nelson Lee), a longtime enemy of the Justice Society of America, Cindy is determined to follow in her father’s footsteps.”

Walker is a Mississippi native best known as Jared Talbot on Rectify and his previous credits include I Love You Phillip Morris, The Chaperone and Burning Palms, as well as roles on Fear the Walking Dead, Lethal Weapon, and Bones. Walker also just wrapped work on the independent film Butter with Annabeth Gish and Mira Sorvino.

Walker is represented by Abrams Artist Agency, Thruline Entertainment and Morris, Yorn, Barnes, Levine, Krintzman, Rubenstein, Kohner & Gellman. DeLacy is represented by Innovative Artists, Untitled Entertainment, and Eric Brooks of Bloom Hergott Diemer Rosenthal Laviolette Feldman Schennkman & Goodman.

Greg Berlanti, Geoff Johns, Sarah Schechter and Melissa Carter are executive producers of Stargirl, which is based on the DC Comics character created by Geoff Johns. The series is produced by Berlanti Productions and Mad Ghost Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. Johns is writing the first episode and will serve as showrunner.

Stargirl follows high school sophomore Courtney Whitmore as she inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past. This new drama reimagines the very first superhero team in comics, the Justice Society of America, in an unpredictable series. Executive producer Geoff Johns launched his career as a comic book writer with the 1999 creation of Stargirl, who he lovingly dedicated to his sister, who died in a 1996 plane explosion.

DC Universe Reveals Stargirl Costume, Sets Swamp Thing Premiere Date

DC Universe made a super amount of news Friday night at WonderCon, revealing a premiere date for its live-action Swamp Thing series, a first look at Stargirl‘s star-spangled hero, and a timetable for Titans‘ return.

Counting showrunner Geoff Johns among its EPs and based on characters from DC which Johns created, Stargirl follows high school sophomore Courtney Whitmore (played by Brec Bassinger) as she inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past. This new drama will reimagine Stargirl and the very first superhero team, the Justice Society of America, in an unpredictable series.

Stargirl’s super suit, seen in full below, was designed by Laura Jean Shannon, whose credits include Titans, Doom Patrol and Black Lightning, among others. The series is set to debut in early 2020.

Update:

Quote:
DC Universe's Stargirl to Also Have a Home on The CW — Get Official Details

The CW has reached a joint custody arrangement for Stargirl, as the exclusive linear home for the upcoming DC Universe series.
Specifically, The CW will broadcast each episode of the live-action superhero series the day after it debuts on the streaming service. Additionally, every Stargirl episode will be available to stream on The CW’s free digital platforms, following its broadcast on the network, throughout the season.
This marks the latest unique arrangement for a DC Universe property. Doom Patrol was renewed for a Season 2 that will simultaneously stream in DCU as well as the upcoming HBO Max service. (The recently ordered Titans Season 3, however, will remain a DC Universe exclusive.)

Stargirl is expected to launch in the second quarter of 2020, with new episodes releasing weekly a la Titans and Doom Patrol. Collider and Stargirl.tv previously tweeted/reported on rumors of The CW giving Stargirl some sort of broadcast-TV home.
Stargirl follows high school sophomore Courtney Whitmore (played by Brec Bassinger) as she inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past. This new drama reimagines Stargirl and the very first superhero team, the Justice Society of America, in what is described as “an unpredictable series.”

Among other castings, Amy Smart (Felicity) will play Barbara Whitmore, who — now that teenage Courtney is older — is jumping back into the workforce and striving to be the best mother and provider she can be to her daughter, her new husband (Legally Blonde‘s Luke Wilson), and her new stepson (Trae Romano).
Additionally, English actor Neil Jackson (Absentia, Sleepy Hollow) and newcomer Hunter Sansone will each play “undisclosed” DC characters.

The Stargirl character was created by Geoff Johns in 1999, lovingly inspired by his late sister who was killed in a 1996 plane explosion. Johns will serve as showrunner on the series and exec-produce alongside co-showrunner Melissa Carter (Queen Sugar), Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter.

Not complaining, but they are basically giving people no reason to subscribe to their service with this being on The CW and Doom Patrol being on DC Universe and HBO Max.

Maybe the one plus with it being on DC Universe first is it will be an actual comic book/superhero show and not just a drama that just happens to have superheroes in it.

I know it's going to be shown on The CW, but as long as it isn't molded to be another one of their superhero shows where it's more about drama than being superheroes, then I'll be ok. Hopefully it's just a DC Universe show that happens to air on The CW.

Unfortunately, it's being branded as a CW show, so who knows. Still, I'll be watching it, and I actually liked what I saw in the trailer.
