superhero movie problem? - Blu-ray Forum

I just rented superhero movie and it doesnt seem to play after the dimension splash screen comes up prior to the menu. It doesnt work on my sony bdp s350 or 550, but works in blockbusters display unit ps3. The disc looks fine, my firmware on both of my machines are updated. What is going on?

i know blurays are supposed to be less susceptible to scratches, but does it look like there are any scratches on the disc?

no the disc itself looks pristine. i doubt anyone has rented it before me. no fingerprints, no smudges, no scratches.

if you're 100% sure the firmware is updated to the last revision on your players you may just have a bad disc. i did a quick google search and didn't find anything that stood out, so i'm baffled too

id say try taking it back and exchanging it

I would but blockbuster only has one copy. I mean this just makes no sense. I've tried with the Ethernet cord in and out. Tried forcing the menu to pop up but nothing. I went to blockbuster about a half hour ago to check and that's when I saw that the disc works in their ps3. Honestly this is very disheartening. I've spent a ton of money on this format and now I'm worried about the handful of discs I have that I haven't watched yet, let alone all I intend to buy.

maybe your player is doing you a favor in regards to that specific movie

this isn't a common problem with blu-rays (so long as the firmware remains updated, which you said yours was). i have a ps3 and a laptop with a bluray player and ive never experienced one problem with any blurays new or old. i really dont know what to tell you but im sry to hear you can't watch your movie. hopefully someone else will pop in here with another suggestion.

I've heard this film isn't too bad. At least it's not done by the team who does all the horrible spoofs.

And I know this, well I hope this isn't the norm. My players have run a lot of Blus but now I'm just worried and frantically opening the few movies in my collection I haven't opened yet.

No, but my dad has a 550, and we've used it a lot and there's been not one disc that I can recall that hasn't played. You've either got a defective disc or player.

if it was a defective disc wouldnt it not work on the ps3 at blockbuster...

and if it was my player why doesnt it work in EITHER of my players?

i mean i too have watched a decent amount of films(im guessing around 90 blu rays) on my s550 with no problem at all. this is so annoying.

I can't play the disc on my Sony S-300 or S-550. It works fine on my PS3.

The freeze occurs before a screen that should allow you to select between the theatrical or extended cuts of the movie.

Oh... BTW... I have all the latest firmware updates so that's not the problem.

honestly I can't tell you how but that very disc started working the next day. Try deleting the bd data for the disc although that doesn't explain how it worked on my 350 since I don't even have external memory.

I'm thinking maybe the disc is ever so slightly warped and I don't even know. This was a very weird experiance for me.
