A possible Oscar contender? At any rate, it’s bound to be better than his other 2018 effort.

It's being said that it's more of a commercial project than awards-bait.

Really odd date then, I know there’s not a lot of the older audience over Christmas, but with it being a crime-thriller, and against such competition and with such little marketing run up, I can’t see it being much of a commercial success.

Nice! Clint is back! There's some good stuff coming out in October and November but finally I've got something to look forward to in December. Thanks Eastwood!

Agreed.

It seems to me that both Variety and Deadline were told by Warner that the movie is not supposed to be an awards hopeful, but maybe the studio is just being disingenuous - they might want to avoid an early internal conflict between this and the buzzy A Star Is Born, awards-wise.

If Eastwood's film becomes a hit and Cooper's somehow disappoints (which doesn't seem likely), I'm sure Warner will champion the former.

Eastwood has been retiring from acting ever since Million Dollar Baby back in 2004. He has come out of retirement twice with Gran Torino in 2008 & Trouble with the Curve in 2012. Now he is returning in 2018.

So if he claims that The Mule will be his last acting credit, I won't believe him.

He can take Eastwood out of acting but he can never take the actor out of Eastwood

I'm calling that Clint will finally die while on a movie set. His last act in this world will be to grab the first assistant director by the scruff of the neck and growl, "Finish the movie, punk...!" before expiring.

Assuming Eastwood makes more movies after this one, I can't really imagine him ever making anything deemed award season worthy anymore. He's really rushing out these cheap little passion projects, in all likelihood The Mule won't be very good.

Btw wasn't Eastwood the original attached director for A Star Is Born? With Cooper presumably, off the back of their collaboration on American Sniper?
