Default Mac Mini to my reciever question...

OK so I just bought a Mac Mini... and want to hook it up to my reciever to stream my music to it... I know I saw a kit that goes with AirPort Express that hooks up the toslink from the mini to digital to the back of my reciever and it was made by Apple and it was a kit... but for the life of me I cannot locate it... I prefer to go with the "official" Apple deal here... anyone know the name of the kit??? Like I said for the life I cant member the actual name... other then Toslink to Optical

OR if my mac mini is next to my reciever could I just run a toslink/optical cable from the mac mini and then go into a digital input on the back of my reciever... that would work too right?

I don't know if Apple officially manufactures one, but any fiber optic cable you buy on the audio aisle of your local Wal-Mart or Target should come with two little adapters that snaps onto the ends of the fiber optic connectors. I've purchased several from Wal-Mart, Target, and Monoprice.com and they all work the same. If you're dead-set on an Apple-branded cable, good luck!

If I may ask, why did you get a Mini now? The rumors flying around the net point to a pending hardware revision in the near future.

Does your reciever not have a coaxial digital-in? If it does, I'm pretty sure all you got to is connect a mini-stereo to rca cable between the mini and your reciever and you are done.

If you are talking about the cable from the AirPort, only two people make it..
Apple and Monster ( as I recall when I installed mine )

I was just looking for something small to play my music through my home theatre... and was looking for something I could surf the net too... I was originally gonna build a HTPC... but after talking to quite a few people that have a Mini... they recommended I go that route... since Im not using it for gaming etc...

The same rumours that have been around for the last year and a bit

Maybe I'm confused, but I thought the Mini used minijack S/PDIF and not mini-toslink. Edit: I guess I was wrong about that.

Yes, the Airport Express has the same mini-RCA jack as the Mac Mini (I have an Airport Express lying on the floor two feet from me). I also have the exact cable the OP is asking about.

Anybody looking to buy an Airport Express (802.11g model)?
