I think the music video OVA is a nice bonus, even if it is SD. I enjoyed watching it back in the day since I really like the show's soundtrack.

I’m willing to bet the BD of the TV series will he laid out like this:

Disc 1: Episodes 1-9
Disc 2: Episodes 10-18
Disc 3: Episodes 19-27
Disc 4: Episodes 28-36
Disc 5: Episodes 37-45
Disc 6: Episodes 46-48; Extras (assuming there will be enough to fill up the majority of a BD-50)

Regardless- Justin is doing compression. So if there’s more or less episodes per disc, it’ll be the best looking release worldwide until a Japanese release is made.

I'm a little disappointed that the packaging won't use Akemi Takada illustrations (it seems to be a rights issue, AnimEigo's release of the TV series didn't have Takada art either). Instead, they are doing original cover art that hasn't been revealed yet.

Justin is the man. He answered my question about the Kimagure Orange Road BD in terms of disc count:

5 discs for TV, 1 for OVAs and 1 for movie.

So that means:

5 Discs for 48 episodes, which is about 9ish episodes per disc
1 for OVAs, which is 8 episodes
and 1 for the first movie.

I've seen comparisons between JP discs and his, and it seems he's got that down now. Plus, he uses either the JP BD or properly taken Screenshots as a way to check his encodes for brightness and overall look.

Apparently Toho own the distribution rights in Japan. I tried uploading the OP in glorious 1080p based on the Netflix master, but Toho blocked it worldwide.

Not 100% sure on the aspect ratio — pretty sure it’s 1.85 or 1.77. It’s actually shorter than 90 min and only has stereo JP audio, so definitely BD-25.

I thought the movie was longer... 68 minutes on a BD-25 is more than enough space for a high bitrate encode (in the 30s) and 24-Bit LPCM stereo audio.

So in total: 6 BD-50s and 1 BD-25. Correct optimization. He really is the man.

The opening to Kimagure Orange Road has some great keys. The HD remaster is spectacular, too. People who like this show won't be disappointed in our Blu-ray.
