Hey guys. What would be the best DVD upscaler to buy for my region 1 DVD's. (Which of course don't work in my UK PS3.)
I really want one with top PQ! ![]() |

I love my OPPO DV-981HD. It upconverts to 1080P, plays SACD and DVD-Audio and DIVX, it has HDMI and 5.1 analog outputs. I got mine to my door for about $300 and am very happy with it. I just love all the extra capabilities of this thing, and they upgrade the firmware as well. Do a search on google... it is very highly regarded. If you have the money go for the denon, but $300 was all I wanted to spend for a DVD player considering I don't buy DVD's anymore. I use it as my main CD player and use it for my SACD's and DVD-Audio's, which is actually the main reason I bought it. I have never put a disc in it that it didn't read. www.oppodigital.com

You said you wanted the best? Denon 3930CI. This one has a REALTA chip that currently is considered the best, even better than REON.
There are a few options with the REON chip - Denon 2930CI or Samsung 1200 Blu-Ray player. Of course you can also consider one of the Oppo players. They are good but arguably cannot achieve the performance of the REON and REALTA equipped players. It is a pity you cannot use PS3 for upscaling because it has a very powerfull upscaling feature as well. The main question is how much you want to spend on an upscaling player. If your display is less than 50 inches, I would not go for the top of the line because more than likely you would not be able to see much of a difference between let's say Oppo and Reon performance on a 42" screen. |
