Arrow Super Bowl Movie Trailers: What To Watch For

From Cinema Blend:

Quote:
PARAMOUNT PICTURES
Quote:

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
- This is the biggie. If there’s one Super Bowl spot you absolutely do not want to miss, then this is it. So far no one has seen anything official from Transformers 2. Not an image, not a clip, not even a poster. Paramount will pop their robot sequel’s cherry during the biggest television event of the year. Prepare to be amazed. Anything less than Optimus Prime throwing Starscream through the Empire State building will be a disappointment.

G.I. Joe - This should be the first footage anyone has seen from G.I. Joe so far. The movie’s first trailer, Paramount’s first chance to convince us that those leftover X-Men uniforms aren’t indicative of the effort and creativity being put into this movie. Plus football fans tend to get all patriotic during kickoff, so mixing in a movie about soldiers (even fantastical ones) ought to play pretty well in front of the pigskin crowd.

Star Trek - Most seem to think Paramount is bringing a brand new trailer for Star Trek to the Super Bowl, though I wouldn’t be surprised if Paramount tries to repurpose the old one. It’s a pretty good trailer and they’ve already got two other “firsts” trailers airing in G.I. Joe. Maybe they’ll skimp a little here. I hope not, but with giant freakin robots to advertise they may not have had the time necessary to spend on Star Trek, which already has a pretty good buzz going for it. Either way, expect to see something Trek related in the mix.

DREAMWORKS ANIMATION

Monsters vs. Aliens - There’s a catch with the trailer for Monsters vs. Aliens. Like a lot of the stuff being pushed during and around the Super Bowl this year, it’ll be in 3D. Have your glasses handy. If you don’t already have some, check for displays in places like your local grocery store, gas station, and even some electronics stores. Here in Dallas area for instance, I’ve spotted them at Fry’s. If you find the right display, they should be free of charge and free to take as many as you want.

SONY PICTURES

Angels & Demons - Tom Hanks is back solving religious mysteries and pissing off the Catholic church. Sony will pimp their latest trailer for Angels & Demons. As far as we know this is the only movie the studio will be pushing during the big game, so let’s hope they make it count. On the other hand maybe advertising only one movie means they aren’t willing to put much effort into the whole Super Bowl advertising frenzy this year. We’ll see.

UNIVERSAL PICTURES

Land of the Lost - The only thing better than watching Will Ferrell run from Sleestacks might be watching Will Ferrell play football with Sleestacks. Somehow though, I doubt Universal is really going to get that creative with their Super Bowl marketing campaign for Land of the Lost. Hey a boy can dream can’t he? So while you may not see Ferrell fending off Sleestack double coverage, you will almost certainly see some sort of trailer for Land of the Lost.

Fast & Furious - It was only a couple of weeks ago that Universal debuted a new trailer for Fast & Furious, so don’t expect a lot of new footage in whatever it is that they’re rolling out to advertise the movie during the Super Bowl. Still you’re certain to see Paul Walker and Vin Diesel’s faces somewhere in there, maybe smashed in between cheerleaders and the all powerful presence of The Boss.

DISNEY

Up - It’s a little unclear exactly what Disney will be showing from Up, but word is that they’ll be showing something. Will it be a full blown trailer? Some sort of brief clip? Will Pete Doctor show up in the NFL broadcast booth between snaps? We don’t know. There’s already a lot out there about Up though, so it’s hard to imagine that whatever they show us will be much of a shock.

Race to Witch Mountain - This should be Disney’s big Super Bowl reveal since it’s a film that’s not really on the general public’s radar yet, but for some reason the studio has jumped the gun and already released the trailer online. So don’t bother skipping a bathroom break to see The Rock hang out with alien kids. Just watch it below:

WARNER BROS.

We don’t actually know whether Warner Bros. has bought air time on Sunday or not, but they’ve no shortage of blockbuster movies they might want to advertise if they have. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Watchmen, Terminator Salvation, or maybe even something with a closer release date like Friday the 13th might make an appearance. If they do, don’t expect anything spectacular since Warners waited till the last minute to buy air time and let’s face it, most of their movies are already pretty well out there and in the public consciousness.

20th Century Fox

Like Warners, we don’t know for certain whether Fox has decided to make a last minute appearance in the Super Bowl mix or not. It does seem like the perfect place to make a splash with something like Wolverine though, doesn’t it? If I were Fox, I’d find a way to get Hugh Jackman’s claws in there somewhere. They could also use a little more buzz for movies like Night at the Museum and Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. On the other hand it’s Fox, and they’re not always known for doing what’s best for them.

Sweet list. It will be interesting to see which ones create buzz and which fall flat.

I gotta say though, Cinema Blend must be living under a rock.

Empire got the first 'official' pictures released from Transformers 2 last month. 4 were also released earlier this month. Hell one stares at your face when you first go to michaelbay.com.
