Default Has Anyone's Region-Free BD Player Ever Gotten Stuck On One Region?

My modded Oppo UDP-203 once became stuck on Region B and wouldn't budge no matter what I tried. I entered the modification procedure multiple times - nothing. Turned the player on and off several times - nothing. I actually don't remember how it went back to working normally but I do recall the frustration I endured since it was my only player at the time. This time the issue is the player apparently plays all-region discs without entering a code, which sounds like a dream come true but it's actually not since certain Blu-rays won't play at all.

I tried the recent Arrow BD of City of the Living Dead and a Region A Blue Underground BD - both played flawlessly without changing region codes. Tried to spin my copy of Cult Films' Il Postino (Region B locked) and it wouldn't play.

Anyone else experience this problem?

My old region-free player became stuck on one region or the other and the only way I could get it to change was to unplug it and plug it back in again.

I have never had that problem, but I also applied my region free mod kit to my older Oppo 93 and just left it on Region B as I have never encountered a Region C disc. I left my Oppo 203 in its original Region A status. The older Oppo became my guinea pig.

So unplugging the cord from the strip might work? Simply turning the player off isn't enough?

That was my experience. At the risk of sounding electronically ignorant, I think fully unplugging resets it in a way that powering down doesn’t.

Unplugging the unit for several minutes and replugging sounds like the most likely cure

Clear the persistent memory might help

Power off, Uninstall the module, power on and check that you're Region A, power off, reinstall the module, power on and check the functionality.

I guess the module could have gone bad, but I'm betting on a fixable issue. Seems I have read of a couple people have had the same problem.

alot of these bluray players are like computers. If it locks up or doesn't do what you want holding the power button down for 4-6 seconds will often reset it and turn it off. You can give that a try.

I have the same issue with an 93EU, but pulling the plug for a while didn't help. Tried it after a few minutes off the grid again. Didn't fix the problem. Now I am going to leave it off the power supply for a night. Maybe a longer time might help. (small internal battery or such)
