denono 2309 stuck in stereo - Blu-ray Forum

I just purchased a denon 2309 reciever last night and am stuck setting it up. For some reason it will only play in stereo, i can not set it up to do surround sound. I have been reading through the manual but its horribly written and impossible to figure out. Has anyone set up this reciever and could they point me in the right direction? Thanks.

Here's a couple of quick things for you to try.

First, make sure that you have run the Audyssey Setup...That will ensure that your receiver knows that you are using a surround set of speakers.

Second, make sure that your surround selection is chosen by using the "Standard" button on the face of the receiver or the STD button on the remote.

Thirdly, make sure you have a surround source connected digitally...i.e. BluRay player with HDMI or DVD player with Fiber Optic.

Lastly, make sure that your device is setup to send a bitstream audio signal out and not a PCM signal. Most newer players when set to PCM only send out a stereo signal.
