Australia Frog Dreaming - Umbrella (December 5th 2018)

Frog Dreaming (A Worldwide Exclusive!) Is now coming 05-12 via Umbrella's Ozploitation Line.

Orphaned 14 year-old Cody (Henry Thomas, E.T the Extra-terrestrial) is a typical boy with an adventurous spirit and imagination to match. Living with his guardian Gaza (Tony Barry, Mystery Road) in an outback Australian township, Cody learns of an ancient Aboriginal myth known as ‘Donkegin’, sparking an interest that will not let him rest. Convinced there is an underwater monster in a nearby dam, Cody and his close friend Wendy (Rachel Friend, Golden Fiddles) embark on a journey that will take them into the very shadow-land of mystery and intrigue. An atmospheric 80s adventure tale, inspired by the likes of The Goonies and E.T, written by Everett DeRoche (Patrick, Road Games) and directed by Brian Trenchard-Smith (BMX Bandits, Dead End Drive-In), Frog Dreaming (also known as The Quest, The Spirit Chaser and The Go-Kids) captures the infectious spirit of childhood determination and discovery.

Special Features:
  • AUDIO COMMENTARY WITH DIRECTOR BRIAN TRENCHARD-SMITH, EDITOR BRIAN KAVANAGH, COSTUME DESIGNER APHRODITE KONDOS AND NOT QUITE HOLLYWOOD DIRECTOR MARK HARTLEY
  • EXTENDED INTERVIEWS FROM NOT QUITE HOLLYWOOD
  • INTERVIEWS WITH RACHEL FRIEND AND HENRY THOMAS
  • THE DREAM QUEST: SHOOTING LOCATIONS REVISITED
  • THEATRICAL TRAILER

What an odd title for the Ozploitation Line. I recall it being a children's/family film.

So far, out of the whole line Ozploitation line, the only ones to get an international release are Long Weekend, Body Melt only just now, and Next of Kin next year.

Dark Age, Fair Game, RoadGames, Man from Hong Kong, and both versions of Razorback still haven't seen a hint of international release.

Frog Dreaming is obscure enough that I doubt you'll see it anywhere else. Plus, with Umbrella producing these transfers, I'm sure when they say exclusive they will be

To any UK readers looking in, you might remember the cover from when they ruthlessly ripped-off The Goonies to market it as:

Talking of Umbrella Blu-rays, I somehow doubt any label in the UK will pick up Spirits of the Air Gremlins of the Clouds either. That's not coloured by the fact that I don't think much of the film.

On a certain other UK-based forum, Frog Dreaming used to turn up several times in "What's the film where..." threads, so it must have made something of an impression. That was more from a couple of BBC television showings rather than its release in the cinema (a short run at the ICA in London) and then on VHS.

Amazon claims this release is region-locked. Anyone know if this is true?

I will wait till after Christmas for the prices to come down. sanity.com.au works best for me, but $ 37 is a little too high, don't you think?

Where are you located? I received it today from Deep Discount, which was a pretty good deal for $15.34 shipped. I pre-ordered it back when there was an extra 15% off coupon.

Hey, thanks for the tip! Now even the store where I usually buy U.S. BDs (importcds.com) has it in its portfolio (for $ 1 less, but shipping is $ 1 more, so total price is the same as from deepdiscount.com). Btw, I'm from what was once called "Germany".

Bumped up the price because they needed to buy a new bit of software to compress their files more lol
