I actually liked the show - it's kinda doing it's own thing and not too beholden to the Trek franchise - if you're okay with that, chances are you'll like it.
My only real negative take on it is that it has almost no re-watchability factor to speak of.

I pre-ordered the regular version last Tuesday and was stuck on pending until Saturday morning so I canceled it. I found an in store pick up for the steelbook and snagged that. There's something weird going on.

Yeah, there is definitely something wrong because I pre-ordered this when it went live and there is nothing about shipping. So after reading your post, I just did what you did and ordered for in-store pickup tomorrow.

All the copies Best Buy has must've been shipped to all the stores. Though I'm a bit worried when I show up tomorrow to pick it up they won't have any at all in store either. Crossing my fingers that's not the case.

Yeah, I got the "Item delayed" email and this was preordered over a month ago. There seems to be a slightly disturbing trend with BB and some steelbooks where they don't fulfill their online orders and send all their stock to stores in somewhat limited supplies. I also believed this happened just recently with Isle of Dogs and The Shape of Water steelbooks. Really wish they would fulfill their actual preorders first.

My Best Buy steelbook never shipped, got the delay email. Tried to cancel and couldn’t even do that. Pretty annoyed!

It wasn't just steelbooks. I had four pre-orders due today that didn't ship this week. I had ordered the regular release of this and the steelbook (wasn't sure which one I was going to keep) and neither shipped.

Received my shipping order, about an hour after I placed an order for in-store pick up.
So do I gamble my copy arriving doesn’t have any damage and save myself a trip to the store?

It’s not just Best Buy. I preordered mine from Amazon Canada back in August. Today it still showed “arriving by 8 PM” yet it also shows as not being shipped and I haven’t been charged for it. So I canceled it and went into Best Buy. They had 1 copy on DVD (what is this the dark ages?) and no copies on blu-Ray at any locations within a 50 mile radius. All copies from Best Buy on line are also back ordered. WTF?

Well decided to do the in-store pick up, since I had my mystery reward certificate($5 yay), and saw a Christmas version for 4k Deadpool 2(non steelbook, gold box with pen and postcards), which I used the reward cert on.
Then when I get home all my Amazon orders were delivered and they shipped me two copies of the regular Star Trek Discovery.
I have half a mind to just return one for a refund, after the Batman Animated Series fiasco.
All in all a good day!

Yeah none of these anywhere I went other than Sunrise for the bluray. Best Buy here also only fee DVD copies. None at Walmart... not at Cinema1

Definitely showing all the delays to Canada with production delays

When I ordered this a few weeks ago, I was only given an option for in-store pickup, shipping not available; seemed odd. I've been a little worried by all the reports in numerous threads re: manufacturing delays on numerous titles.

Thankfully, I received notice last night that my order was ready for pick-up, and I got it this morning! The were 2 other copies that I could see on the shelves (and about 6 of the regular release). The discs are not stacked; hinged tray in the middle. Overall, I'm impressed with the packaging.

No digital code, however.

a lot of tv shows don't get a digital code, so, I don't think it's a ripoff, if a tv series does get a digital code, that's exceptional in many cases.

not always the case. some tv shows do have digital copies included with them. it's never a sure thing if a tv show will include a digital copy, you just have to wait and see.

and so on and so on. sometimes you get digital copies with tv shows, sometimes you don't. it depends on the studio I guess.
