Agree - Had a very hard time getting into it and ultimately I think Im bailing on the franchise. If this second film proves to be a HUGE hit and awesome then maybe Ill try again. Too bad since these are films that benefit greatly from 3D.

We'll see...

As someone who thinks frame breaking is the worst gimmick to ever hit 3d, I'll be avoiding this like the plague and I'll stick to RealD. That being said, is IMAX even screening this in 3d in North America?

Nope. Just plain 2D IMAX in the States, while international territories get IMAX 3D.

Just saw this in IMAX 3D, even though the film is not so satisfying, 3D is just amazing, one of the best conversions recently! Even the frame breaking, something I'm not so into usually, is quite effective in 3D for the most time.

UK has 3D pre orders up which is a good sign.

It'll be a shame not to have the frame breaks on disc but at least Warners can be commended for continuing to consistently support 3D.

True but the first movie didn't have the frame breaks on the disc either, unfortunately so I guess we can expect them not to be included this time around also.

Hey guys! I think this is my first post. Thanks everyone for all the 3D info I've gathered from these forums. It's been a lot of fun reading all your posts.
I loved the first Fantastic Beast in 3D and can't wait to see this one on the weekend.
I had fingers crossed for IMAX 3D but sadly not so. So it will be reg 3D for sure.

Having said all dat, the reason for the post is to inform that the 3D/2D Steelbook (All Region) is up for pre-order on Amazon Germany! Cheers

another rave review:

Just got back from the IMAX 3D showing. I was absolutely blown away, completely took me by surprise, even though I’d rewatched the first film last night in 3D to remind myself.

There were so many genuine 3D pop-outs I stopped counting, far more than the first film. As expected, ‘fantastic beasts’ are often the stars of the pop-outs.

There were even more “extra-frame” pop-outs and expansions (that could work in 2D IMAX but are made for 3D), where all manner of things made use of the black-bar space - this occurred so often (literally every minute or two) that I couldn’t have counted if I’d tried, although I definitely noted the varied ways that the expansion was used - whether it was something like a necklace briefly ‘hanging down’ over the bottom black bar, something of a large scale (a wall of exploding water) expanding to full-frame suddenly, or something popping/flying out over the upper or lower black bar (a niffler flying in slow-mo on a champagne cork wins my prize for favourite pop-out of the year).

A very original use of the expanded ratio (strengthened by 3D) is a scene where we see Credence’s head from the side in full zoom, but translucent (as a magical hologram floating high in a room), in full frame; while the physically real scene, with Grindelwald standing centre screen looking up towards the camera (technically he’s gazing at the translucent image of Credence’s head that lies between us and him) is in regular wide frame. It’s a subtle and surprisingly artistic use of expanded ratio that most people wouldn’t notice as it’s gradually immersive.

There are no full scenes that are expanded, possibly because the black bars are invaded by visual effects more than live action elements. The “flirting” with expanded ratio was a regular feature and frankly felt necessary for the effectiveness (and fun) of many shots and even sequences - to the point that I’m already worrying that they may not include it on the physical release. Even more vital seems the 3D. Like the first film, David Yates has clearly designed the film with 3D in mind, as many of the shots without great depth/pop-out action are at least 3D-enhanced with outer-frame foreground context, and/or closer-to-the-ground upward camera angles.

Right up there with my favourite 3D films of the year, and I totally wasn’t expecting it to be. Glad that the UK 3D edition is already up for preorder on Amazon UK. Here’s hoping expanded ratio is included (so much visual effects work went into it, surely it will be...).

damn you Warners and IMAX for not releasing this here in the States as such.

Late to the party with this franchise but having finally got around to buying the Harry Potter blu-rays (purchased a well looked after Hogwarts Collection set on ebay) I looked for the original Fantastic Beasts 3D blu-ray and found it hard to find here in the UK now, without it being pre-owned and pretty expensive, so ended up importing a new copy from Amazon.com

I will definitely be picking up the 3D release of the new film when it comes out, so I haven't got to hunt it down later again lol

No IMAX 3D shows at my local cinema in London!! Only a couple Real D 3D shows and 2D/IMAX 2D shows. I'm stunned because every big movie in the past had IMAX 3D shows, and they were packed too. Is IMAX phasing out 3D in the UK too??

My local Cineworld has IMAX 3D showings and looking on the Cineworld website, they also list London Enfield and Leicester Square Cineworlds have IMAX 3D showings (evening showings only)

Yes, I just checked the official movie website and they list all cinemas in the UK showing the film, and you can filter by format. For IMAX 3D there are only 3 cinemas listed, this is insane. Plenty of regular 3D or IMAX 2D. Doesn't sound promising for future releases.
