Theatrical LOTR on UHD is my next biggest request.

But I also want A1 and A2 in UHD. A1 looks wonderful on the blu, but A2 is a subpar encode.

They're on my hopeful wishlist for UHD catalogue releases this year alongside The Force Awakens, Beauty and the Beast (2017) and from Fox, Alien 1-4 and the remaining X-Men films (X-Men 1-3, Wolverine 1-2) simply so they're out before the Disney takeover goes through (because who knows what will happen after that).

dude just wanted to have a little discussion. Nothing wrong with that. Lots of people are obviously interested in talking about it.

(But ignore the Iron Man and Iron Man 2 UHDs unless you REALLY want them.)
oh ho ho, look who showed up to discuss

I think they all might debut in Dolby Vision on Disney's streaming platform.

Well, the new Ant-Man and The Wasp movie hits theaters in july and probably out in October or November on UHD. No real reason to release the first Ant-Man in 4k before then.

Disney's going to maximize their profits as much as possible. I can't imagine them not releasing previous movies on UHD. It's still a growing format.

I think 1080p sets will die a slow death long before physical media ever will.

Considering DVD still isn't dead, I see all formats sticking around for a long long time.

I'm curious how Disney would gauge interest in 4K releases of past titles. Buying newer 4K titles doesn't necessarily mean people will buy older releases in 4K. I guess the Incredibles could be their test (though I'm personally not interested in buying that one in 4K.) They'll certainly get more money with the more 4K they release though.

I hadn't thought of that. I imagine only enthusiasts like us or hardcore Disney fans would buy older titles on UHD. I'll get Incredibles since I only have it on DVD.

Disney should up its game in the audio/soundtrack department more than anything

I would buy Civil War, Guardians of the Galaxy 1, and Doctor Strange all because of the shifting aspect ratios

If we're going by GOTG2 and Thor Ragnarok, then the UHD's won't have the IMAX scenes either.

My money is on a release late next year (2019) when they can bundle all three phases of the MCU movies in a box set of 4K UHDs. Think November, perfect time for holiday gift giving (if you have deep pockets anyways)

Do you have to click on every thread that doesn't interest you?

Infinity has come and gone along with the 10 year anniv. No mention of anything yet. I would hate to drop $70 on a premium gotg release after waiting patiently all this time and then they re-release that cassette bestbuy steelbook in 4k.

Well we know we're getting Avengers 1 and 2 now. I'm guessing we'll continue to see "themed" releases from Marvel's catalogue, with films featuring characters or feature a similar setting/style being released alongside new films on UHD. At a guess (or at least how I'd do it):

Autumn 2018 - Avengers films: Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Avengers: Infinity War

Late 2018 - Films featuring Ant-Man: Ant-Man, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Captain America: Civil War

Spring 2019 - Cosmic films: Captain Marvel, Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor, Thor: The Dark World

Autumn 2019 - Captain America films: Avengers 4, Captain America: The First Avenger, Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Winter 2019 - Spider-Man and his mentors (if the rumours of Strange appearing in Spider-Man's sequel are true): Doctor Strange, Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Iron Man 3, Untiled Spider-Man Sequel

There’s nothing official yet but Best Buy had a UHD blu-ray product page for both of them, I believe (not sure if they’re still up), plus there are preorders available for both on Vudu for 4K streaming.

While better sound would be good - I hate the drab color treatment all the marvel movies get.

Haven't watched The Avengers yet, but I thought The Incredible Hulk looked pretty good in 4K.
