Default Target retail stores NOT carrying TMNT Blu?

Well after hitting the two Targets in the North Hollywood/Burbank area it's become clear that some Target stores, despite their heavy support for Blu-Ray are not carrying the TMNT disc in their stores on the release date. Anyone else noticing this?

Very prominent on the shelves were the Disturbia, Are We Done Yet, and Planet Earth (good move) discs but on asking employees at both Target locations, they did not receive nor were they expecting to carry the TMNT BD. (However, just as an aside of relief, the HD-DVD version is nowhere to be found in Targets either).

I can understand that Target has their exclusive two-disc deluxe edition that they really want to hype, and indeed to some it may seem excessive to have three versions of the same flick on the shelf but why not carry a title that there quite obviously is far more demand for than a B-title like Are We Done Yet?

Could it be they just didn't receive their shipments day-in-date? It just seems like an odd move?

perhaps they haven't gotten them in yet... could be the case... never discount a retailer just because the distrubitor was lax on their shipments... my, btw, is on it's way from NV... should get it tomorrow

I was going to go pick this up today. I hope frys will have it. Anyone know what the transfer is like? On par with other hd awesomeness as open season and the wild?

The Best Buy near me didn't have any either. Problem with distribution?

My local Target didn't have any new Blu Ray or HD-DVD movies in. I went to Wal-Mart and picked up TMNT and Final Fantasy. However, they had everything except for Disturbia

The Target that I stopped at this morning had nothing new on either format. They did have a few copies of 300 left, but no TMNT or Disturbia on Blu-Ray or HD DVD. I was going to stop at Best Buy on the way home. I hope they got some in.

Most Blu titles are put on low priority for shipping ,so they are often not there on release day. Usually they'll show by Thurs

The 6 nearest Best Buy's have TMNT I just checked by using their online availability. I have gone to BBY and they sometimes don't put out their new BD releases sometimes, especially since at the BBY's I have gone to they put those plastic sensor boxes. I typically just tell someone from the media dept. and they go to the back & get me the new releases. So in my experience it doesn't hurt to ask.

I've never been on the retail side of things but I was under the impression that department chains receive cases of Tuesday releases well in advance for them to add security devices etc.?

I'm sure that it's the case that the stores just haven't received their stock (I was more so putting the feelers out there to see if anyone had any success picking the disc up at a Target store) but it seems odd that one format would receive priority shipping over another?

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. The really big titles that have to be there day 1, are often shipped out well ahead. We had Star Wars Episode 1 2 weeks before street for instance. Much more typically, the product would come in on Monday morning and you'd spend several hours pricing and prepping it.

A store like I bought for, Tower Records is an enthusiast shop, so having all the titles day 1 is important. But Target or BB tier the new releases, and anything other than the top titles for the week get put on the slow boat. They might be there Tuesday, more often than not it's Wednesday or Thursday, or they sit in the back because they're low priority on pricing.

One thing I've found with Target and Best Buy is that many new movies with low volume (read 99% of HD releases) the employees don't even know they exist, and many times nowadays corporate does all the ordering based on store size. So unless you have the dept head, they know nothing about what's coming

Have them look in the back/check the computer, or come back basically.

I didn't think that stores put security devices on their media any longer. That's why when you open the case there are one or two of them inside. The last one I opened had the little black one stuck to the case and one on a paper insert. But I have noticed that Target sometimes has new BDs a few days after they are typically released. Maybe they just don't feel like it is worth the extra effort to put them on the shelves earlier?

Oddly enough, I work across from a Virgin Megastore here in Hollywood and, as well, they haven't received their shipment of either HD formatted TMNT either...

If I weren't such a fanboy that wanted it in-hand first thing this morning...

I've been to 2 Wal Marts, 3 Targets, and a Suncoast to find TMNT. I didn't even catch a glimpse of it.

Tons of them on DVD, though.

Dang I was going to hit Target after work. Target is a lot cheaper than any other walk-in store on this one.. even Frys!

I ordered from Amazon and it shipped yesterday, so I will probably get it Friday or Saturday. I was going to check out Best Buy and another electronics store after work for other movies. I will have to see if either of them have them in stock. One store I go to has TMNT on standard DVD for $12.99. I am sure the Blu-ray version and HD DVD version is probably at full list price. I don't know why they do that. They only have a very small section of Blu-ray hand HD DVD so it is like they don't really care.

I finally was able to snag a copy at the Burbank Fry's after work. Can't believe how in short supply this disc has been though!
