Default Mission Impossible - Ghost Protocol iTunes 4K question

I noticed that while my iTunes copy of this says "Play" and denotes 4K, Dolby Vision, etc.. I also have the "Buy" button instead of the "Download" button.

Anyone know why this is?

Same issue as Star Trek ‘09, the code redeemed SD but the TV app sees it as 4K. It is SD though when you play it and if you want 4K with iTunes Extras, you have to buy it or redeem an HD code in iTunes.

Yeah I had Ghost Protocol from a redeemed Blu-ray code which redeemed in SD, the TV app shows as 4KDV but you see the buy symbol in the Store. I’ve got the same with Inception and Transformers Dark Of The Moon and also had the same as Steve with Star Trek.
You should find what you have will only playback in SD, during playback swipe down on remote and you’ll see no HD or 4K icons.

Anyone know if 4K versions of movies will transfer across MovieAnywhere accounts? I bought a copy of MI:Fallout 4k for my iTunes account, which is linked to my MA account, but it won't show up on my Amazon account. Just curious if anyone might know.

The M:I movies are Paramount. Paramount is one of the studios that does not participate in Movies Anywhere. Hopefully they will one day.

I suppose people have contacted Apple? Obviously Blu-Ray codes shouldn’t be redeeming in SD.

They did at the start, the digital copy disc included in most combo packs held the iTunes file that was copied to a hard drive. This was before iCloud was a reality and even with iCloud, some codes still redeem in SD. Yes, digital copies with Blu-ray discs still can redeem in SD.

So your assertion is that the studio intentionally made 1 of the 6 Mission Impossible movies redeem in SD? I’m talking about recent purchases, not long ago redemptions or ancient codes.

You never stated in your post how you obtained Ghost Protocol but you asked why it shows 4K in the TV apps yet still shows buy in the store:

Which is why I replied that its an issue with SD copies of selected movies. The apps flag it as 4K but it plays in SD and to get the HD/4K with extras, you have to buy it.

Recent redemptions from the 4K should redeem in 4K via Paramount’s UV store and will be 4K in iTunes. That’s one guaranteed way and the other is buying it direct from iTunes.

If you bought a code or got it from a Blu-ray, its a gamble between HD/4K and SD. Apple is not going to “fix” it because there is nothing to fix, you can try contacting Paramount and see if they’ll give a code that will redeem in HD. But honestly: SD codes still exist, work, redeem, and remain in SD.

I'm not trying to be combative, just piece this together. I apologize if it seemed that way.

I solved my mystery. I've purchased all of these movies multiple times, but in 2016 I purchased the 5 movie box set(the last pre-UHD set). After digging through all of the iTunes history, I see that I accidentally failed to redeem Ghost Protocol. All the other codes got redeemed, which I just fixed b/c I still had the slip.

That means that just that one movie redemption was from the old sometimes SD days.

Why have you bought movies multiple times?
