I'm very suprised a movie about wrestling was so critically accepted.

I saw it last weekend and Rourke performance was outstanding. I'm not sure if it was the theater I went too, but it looks like the movie was a little grainy to me. I was thinking the director purposely film it this way to have that 80's feel to it.

Really great flick and Rourke and Tomei are so great in it but... WOW is it one depressing film. after my friend and I left the cinema we just looked at each other and said nothing. I immediately went home and threw Kung Fu Panda on blu into my PS3 to raise my spirits.
I will def pick this up to own though. Can't wait. |

Sure it's about wrestling. Like Raging Bull is about boxing.
Aronofsky is maturing nicely, and this is better than at least three of the titles nominated for Best Picture this year (as if that has ever been a measure of anything). Here's hoping for a worthwhile Blu-ray -- none of those "I recorded a commentary for The Fountain but the studio wouldn't include it on the disc" shenanigans, PLEASE. It was definitely a grim and depressing movie. It is more about a person accepting their life, what it has become, living in past, etc.
There is some wrestling in the film, but I see it only serving as a backdrop to show why it is so hard to leave the profession. And man, does tomei have a body. More of the movie is in the tiity then any other scene. They made her face look worn, but then she was at the golden globes looking herself. |
