This already looks amazing on blu-ray, so I'm not sure what more a 4K image will bring, HDR would add value though. But it's hardly a film I watch very often, so I'll wait for a bargain price before picking this up (if reviews suggest it's worth it)

Don't worry guys. That will not be the 4K blu ray cover.
It's from the game Alien: Isolation (amazing game by the way). I doubt they'll use that. Wouldn't mind a movie version of Alien Isolation though. |

speaking of games,
Its about time we got a new Alien and Predator game. And can someone explain why we never got a movie version of the story in AVP 2 PC Game? That was the best one. |

I can only repeat myself:
Next to Stanley Kubrick's The Shining, this is the ultimate slow burn horror movie. The sense of dread, claustrophobia, mistrust among its characters and isolation is, even to this day, unmatched. The breathtaking and absolutely amazing production design holds up extremely well. The same can be said about the visual effects. In fact, the entire movie feels timeless. The sets are wonderfully lit and framed, thus coming to live in an extraordinary way. The Nostromo feels like a character in itself. I can't praise the cinematography and especially its framing enough, but that does not only apply to the beauty that we see onscreen, but also to what Ridley Scott doesn't want the audience to see. The film runs 116 minutes and the Alien is onscreen for only 4 minutes. Yet, you feel(!) like it's lurking around every corner of the Nostromo, hiding in every dark hallway, is present in every dark shadow, etc. You get the sense that the Alien is just outside of every single frame and shot that Scott shows us. It feels omnipresent. The ever present fear. Fear of the unknown. Which is much more scary than anything we could ever witness with our own eyes. Thanks to perfect editing and pacing, it all results in an ever growing suspense. It builds and builds until it becomes unbearable for the audience and that's when all hell breaks loose. The acting is also great from the entire cast, because it's believable and realistic. Scott's direction is incredible in every way imaginable. The music, now of course legendary, is actually pretty low key and its magic works mostly subliminal. Which is why it is so effective. Alien is a master class in filmmaking. |
