Just bought it and watched it. This is a close match for stealth in quality. The parts with the fish and the sharks is one of the best picture quailty I have seeen yet. I wish I had a 1080p cap. Tv to get the full picture but in 1080i it was amazing. deffintly worth getting for $25 or if you were hording best buy rewards like me even better. I think I am going to do the same thing for sielent hill next week.

Yeah, i've been thinking for a while now, if you blind folded him first...set up an HDDVD player with cross platform title, playing behind the scenes. but told him it was Blu-Ray he'd probably say...oh the HDDVD version looks better than this

Why is it a surprise that he's disappointed? It's not a "very short" movie, nor BW movie. And the rest is the same as with the rest of BD released.
SL disc, MPEG2 codec, PCM. God damn it, MPEG2 can't compress that well to fit all that stuff on 25 gigs especially with PCM sound in there.
I don't get it who wants this PCM sound when there are problems with image? How many people out there even have equipment to properly utilize that PCM sound.

Anyone notice that this is an MGM title? Why wasn't this one pulled along with Robocop? Cop out anyone?

I wouldn't care for any Blu Ray title that didn't have AT LEAST a PCM audio track on there.
What's the big deal about getting it with regular Dolby or DTS? You can watch it on HDTV movie channel in 720p with Dolby 5.1

My point was that the two go hand in hand.
What's the point in issuing a disc in HD-DVD or Blu-Ray without a lossless audio track on it.
DTS is great for DVDs, but it falls WAYYYYY short of the quality of a DVD-Audio or SACD disc. 5.1 PCM, DTS-HD, DD TrueHD and even perhaps DD+ are the least these HD discs should be issued with.

When DTS and DD are used on HD discs, the bitrates have been bumped up considerably over their DVD counterparts. Which affords them better volume levels, seperation between channels and dynamic range. While not nearly as good as Uncompressed PCM, DolbyTruHD, or DTS-HD, they are still a step up from DVD codecs.

Case in point Warner BDs are encoded with 640kbps DD streams, whereas the DVDs only enjoy 448kpbs streams.

DTS has a maximum bit rate of 1536kbps and it is not reserved for HD discs.
NIN's ...and all that could have been (DTS edition), Peter Gabriel's Play (96/24), and others.
DTS is still a lossy compression scheme.
DTS-HD will carry the lossy DTS signal as well as the additional information in the DTS-HD stream that enables it to be lossless.

640kbps DD is not reserved for Blu Ray either, but guess what...it's not very common on DVD.

Im all good with PCM lossless. Just get the more efficient video codec or DL on there so theres no compromises.

DTSHD-DD+ & DtrueHD can all kick rocks as far as im concerned unless we stick with mpeg2 & 25gb's for ever.

This one he seems to be disappointed more with the cinematographers colour choices.

He did complain about a couple of artifacts as he saw it but he was mostly complainging about the colours.

I think he just likes to kick off his BD review summary with 'disappointing'

One thing's clear - we need the freaking DL discs and we need them now.

I can't wait to watch a movie in DTS-HD with 192/24 7.1 sound and flawless 1080p picture, but waiting is all I can do.

The movie has occasional posterization and a few flicks of artifacting in low lit backgrounds. but honestly they are few and far...and i mean far between. 99.9999% of the rest of the film looks awesome. Also the "color" issues he refers to were not distracting and just the way it was filmed (not a result of the transfer process).

I'd give this transfer a solid B+ if not for an occassional tiny set of blocks here and there 30 minutes apart an A-
