I feel sorry for the staff.
HMV's online store has actually been great. I ditched Amazon to purchase blu-rays from HMV and Zavvi. Is anyone else having issues logging on their website this morning? |

You have to remember that to be able to sell the exclusive steelbooks for less than Zavvi or offer the Premium Collection and Retro VHS ranges they need the volume that stores sales brought them. The prices would be higher if they went online only as less sales even if they could continue the exclusives. Remember the likes of Zavvi are part of much bigger groups and sell other stuff online not just entertainment to spread the costs of running a web operation, warehousing etc. |

It worked and I could even view my account around 9:30 as checked when I first read Guardian article.

I can’t go until tomorrow as long trek now (my local store closed after last administration) but I have £50 voucher available. Please ask, as if they are no longer redeeming them I won’t waste the petrol and parking money plus most of Saturday morning. Can’t go today. |

My bonus points have gone on from Monday's purchases so I now have now enough for £50 off but I'm getting an error message saying not enough points even though I have 159,776 or it's just not letting me click
If I can get it to work, I'm going over today. I was saving it for new releases so not sure what I'll get, but I don't want to let it go to waste |

This appears to be quite distressing with the potential of it happening easily to other uk, us and aussie buisinesses that sell blurays. I wish i got to go to a hmv as they have nice collectables and exclusives. I guess after hmv failing in Australia, they could fail anywhere

Very sad news, mainly for the staff of course who could lose their jobs so close after Xmas.
Another nail in the coffin for fans of physical media though. |

This is terrible news. I feel so sorry for all the staff facing an uncertain future at this time of year, especially in today's job market. I worked at HMV as an Xmas temp many years ago.
From a purely selfish point of view, this will seriously impact my Blu-Ray buying. I've been using Fopp/HMV instore for nearly all my recent UK purchases. Working in the centre of Manchester, it's easy for me to nip off in my lunch break to nab the latest releases or take advantage of the great sales they have. I wouldn't have half the film noir titles I have without Fopp doing Arrow Academy titles for £6 a pop. I've pretty much ditched Amazon and Zaavi and don't really want to go back to using them. Still, I ain't go no choice now, have I? |

This is gutting news! I feel for all the staff. I've been in this situation and its horrible.
I have a stack of points that I can't access at the present and I have a voucher for there that a friend got for Christmas too! The webpage is in melt down as I can't even log in |

The problem is it's a niche market. Supermarkets will continue to sell physical blu-rays and meanwhile Amazon is getting bigger and as a result of less competition they will increase their prices further.

****.
I'm in there most weeks and have been buying a lot from my local store over this past year and still have a long list of titles I still want from the store. Plus any future releases. I still like to go into the store to browse and buy rather than online, so this is terrible. Plus of course I feel sorry for all the staff that may lose their jobs too as they are always very helpful in my local store. I just hope something can get sorted out but I have to say; I'm not hopeful ![]() |
