This has been discussed numerous, numerous times...but never WITH A POLL! (yay!) I went with 5, which is definitely going to win. After that 2,3,and 4 float and intermingle, 1 and 6 are in the bottom two. I have no idea still of what to make of 7 because it's so new. There's no real urgency but it's been a fun watch thusfar.

I've enjoyed them all and most people have called season five the definitive one (it was great), but I loved season two I think the most because Jack Bauer became the bad a** he is today. He chops off a dead suspects head to infiltrate a terrorist group in the first episode for god's sake. That kind of sets a tone you never come back from and makes the show what it is today. But you can't go wrong picking any of them.

Season 1 def has it's highlights such as jack defending the underground bunker, going after the drazen's at the end etc...but all of the focus on kim bauers drama, as well as palmer's family drama was too much IMO.

Season 2, closely followed by Season 3. I'd have to say that seasons 6 and 7 have been thoroughly disappointing so far. Don't get me wrong, they're better than Season 1 (the worst IMO), but no where near as good as the other earlier seasons.

Season 1 - by a long shot.
The whole thing that made the first season of 24 work so beautifully was that it was actually unpredictable. I know it's hard now to imagine back to a time when we didn't expect the unexpected with this series, but back when I'd never heard of 24 or Jack Bauer (in the superhero sense of the name), this show was really fresh - and really surprising. It was a personal and intimate story for Jack, much more so than any Season has been since. Let me put this into clearer perspective: 1. Jack going in full force as a one-man assault at the end of the Season and killing everyone. Hell, that's just expected now in your average episode. But back then I was like "holy crap, he killed them all? He is such a bada**!" I wasn't expecting it. The bad guys set him up to do just that and he was just TOO bada** for them to stop anyway...and that was shocking and amazing back then. 2. Jack actually killing Victor on the pier. Nowadays, I would just naturally assume that Jack would kill the guy. No way would he let him live. This is Jack effing Bauer we're talking about. But back in Season 1, I leaped out of my seat and shouted "YES!" at the TV (true story). I did NOT see it coming. I thought he'd kill him, but then he hesitates for a few moments. I thought for sure he would just arrest him at that point. Knowing the character as we know him now, obviously, that's stupid. But then...his just killing Drazen was BEAUTIFUL. 3. Terri's death. Seriously, has *anything ever since* been remotely shocking? Really? That broke such a sacred rule that the unexpected has simply become the norm for 24 and they have never been able to match this twist. Not ever. Season 2 simply upped the ante with Jack getting superhero-esque...and it was still awesome because now you *knew* what the guy could do and were on board with the whole Nina subplot, etc. It was great. Now...how many scenes of Jack slamming someone against that interrogation room wall have we seen now in 2009? Does it really give anyone a charge any more the way it did when you first saw him do it to Nina? No way. So Season 2, for me, ranks second. Season 3 wasn't one I liked at first, but now I love it. They introduced some new characters (Chloe, Chase), wrapped up the Nina story (unexpectedly at the midway point), showed Jack as a flawed person (the Heroin), and gave us a great, emotional end to what I like to think of as the first three Season trilogy. So this comes in third for me. Season 4 I'd put second to last after 6. By this point nothing was fresh, everything had been done...so they went for quantity over quality. This played out like a "threat of the week" show and it just didn't grab me. Season 5 was a definite improvement over 4, but I don't see how it's winning this poll. Definitely still has that stale feel to it that Season 4 has, although it's executed MUCH better and kinetically. Season 6, after the first four episodes, just blew. End of story. Season 7 so far is all right...I'll reserve judgment. Right now, I'd say it's on Season 5 level. But I still have yet to see anything that makes me put it anywhere near the level of Seasons 1-3. Oh, and also...those first couple of Seasons were the only ones to even pretend to hold on to the real-time concept. They say it's real-time now, but it's ludicrously explained in some cases. |

I'm going with the majority on this one!
Season 5 was consistently tense and exciting. I was never once bored during the entire run! Although Season 4 runs a very close second. In fact I've watched day 5 from beginning to end on DVD twice. That's how much I like it. Season 6 was by far the worst! I was bored with it after the 10th episode! And my patience was wearing thin by episode 19... It kept repeating itself and was just tedious. Season 7 is shaping up to be a fantastic season though, so here is hoping! |

I'd rather go for best moments.
Season 1 finale when Jack kills them all and blast a full load at Dennis Hopper on the pier. Season 4 when Almeida arrives and saves the day when we think all his lost. Cloé killing the bad guy with the machine gun in season 4 Jack kidnapping the president in season 5 There's more |
