Ya I just saw this on cnn. He was a good actor and was a warm spirit on Shawshank. In the book, Brooks barely had a part but they made a whole character out of him in the film.

I liked him in the Twilight Zone episode "On Thursday We Leave For Home". I loved the ending to that one.

Man, this is a sad day. I loved him in Shawshank. Hell, every movie he played a role in was great. You will be missed Mr. Whitmore.

I love "THEM!" also and you are right it was a great performance, I love his line "Yeah! Spit's all that's holding me together right now, too
