Ah, great news. I've been avoiding buying 101's release in the UK because a complete lack of subtitles should never be rewarded in this day and age. Glad Shout have picked this up - I look forward to seeing what kind of special features they put together.

Takes me to 'back in the day' . . . of Universal's Collector's Edition DVDs with some decent supps . . . which weren't on the "full bit rate" DTS DVD . . .
I know, I know . . . "times change." But it's still a little sad to consider that a pic that once got that multiple release treatment (albeit because this pic's theatrical release coincided with the early DVD era) . . . featuring then-hot, now retired DDL and hot-off-of-Breaking the Waves Emily . . . . . . is now a title Uni licenses out. |

The pairing of director Jim Sheridan and actor Daniel Day-Lewis resulted in three absolutely terrific films; so glad to see THE BOXER is finally getting a release on Blu. Day-Lewis' quietly impassioned performance here is a thing of beauty, and the seemingly effortless way he inhabits the skin of any given character remains a marvel (I never catch him acting, he simply IS the person he's playing). This is a tough but touching film, and remains my favorite Sheridan/Day-Lewis collaboration.
Here's hoping Shout licenses IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER, and can provide some worthy supplements for what I believe has always been a bare-bones release. |

Oh, the transfer is identical to the 101 films blu-ray release which can be viewed on caps-a-holic. So a dated Universal master. Likely the same one Shout have licensed. But hopefully Shout have a good audio track. |

Have anyone seen a review of this particular release anywhere?

Didn't see many reviews, so I bit the bullet and bought the Shout disc. Transfer is poor. Excessive DNR and sharpening, waxy looking. Looks like the same transfer that was used on the UK disc.
