I've been known to swing early. Almost all the time. High view might help. You can tell when its time to swing but the downfall is that alot of time you don't know if its a ball or strike.

Press the start button. Go to Gameplay Settings. Choose Game Options. It lets you choose difficulty, baserunning and batting, pitching, fielding views

I use the default view for batting, and I've still yet to make contact with a power swing.

As briefly alluded to in another thread, one of my "basic" strategies for hitting is to always guess 4-seamer down, and if I guess both right, I'll end up taking a power swing at it (unless I have 2 strikes). For some reason the power swing seems to be a slower swing, and I can't get the timing down for it. I'm either too late (because it's a slow swing) or incredibly early (overcompensating for the slow swing). I looked at the slow motion in a replay after swinging and missing, and it appeared the timing was spot on, but the bat swung way over the ball. I have no idea why.

Anyhow, for pitching I use the outfield view, because I like having the different views for each part of the game.

One question I have for everyone though:

When the catcher calls for a pitch, do you put the ball cursor into the glove symbol that shows up (based on where it wants you to pitch) or to you put the ball cursor somewhere relative to the glove icon, so that the ball will end up in the icon after it moves?

Sounds confusing, but maybe this will help:

Say, for example, the catcher calls for a curveball right down the middle of the plate. Do you line up the cursor with the middle, so that it ends up curving and dropping down out of the strike zone, or do you set the cursor above the icon, so that it drops down into the icon after the curve? I can't figure out which I'm supposed to do.

well honestly, i dont usually let the cpu call my pitches. i understand what youre saying though. if it were me, i would have it where the ball will end up where the cathers wants it after the break.

i have made contact with the power swing once. i guessed right on an inside 4 seamer to ryan howard, BUT i hit it a mile foul i almost had it down right, but it went down the right field line into the top of the upper deck.

It seemed like no matter where I told it to pitch it wouldn't go to there. Whats up with that? Does this game have a mind of its own or something?

Sometimes I told it to go far right and it would go straight down the middle.

well first of all, it depends on how well you stop the cursor and all of that on the pitching meter. it also depends on the skill of the pitcher you are using. if you have kazmir out there and you stop it directly on the line, it will pretty much go where you tell it to. now, if you have some scrub pitching, and you hit it on the line or near the line, it may sway off the spot you told it to go. which is how it is in real life. every single pitcher cant always pinpoint EXACTLY where the ball should go.. another great thing about this game!

thats why when the bases are loaded and its a full count and your pitcher is getting a little tired, you take a chance. do you bring in the new guy warming up? or do you leave him out there, but youll have to be a little forgiving on picking the corners. youll have to throw it closer to the middle of the plate. makes it a more true life pitching experience! you cant just leave guys out there painting the corners all night which is how it should be!

Yeah I'm having a brutal time hitting as well - impossible to tell if it's going to be a ball or strike before it's too late. It's like they tried to make it too realistic.

Pitching I'm stuggling like mentioned above - the pitch usually goes nowhere even close to where I wanted it to go...even when I stop the meter pretty well.

I don't know....all of these "next gen" baseball games pi$$ me off with their slow speed and uneeded complexity. It's sad the best baseball games remain the old ones -- Baseball Stars, Baseball Simulator 1.000, etc.

Haha. Oddly, my two favorite baseball games are MLB 07: The Show (the last one I bought), which is very realistic, and the first Ken Griffey game on SNES which is very unrealistic. RBI Baseball on NES isn't far behind though.

i dont find it too hard at all to tell if its a ball or strike. watch it all the way out of his hand. find the release point...

Yeah, I agree. It's not too bad.

If nothing else works, follow this simple strategy:

Always take the first pitch. Most pitchers will not throw a strike to start a count.

+1 Amen brother! I thought it was just me at first, but reading through the thread I see everyone is having a problem hitting. I do not like what SCEA will probably say to combat the issue "....adjust the sliders...". That is a very cheap way of saying "we have a bug, and that is the only fix we see to combat the issue." Pitching is buggy as well, as many times when the "slider" is locked in perfectly the pitch goes to the outside corner of the plate. One more thing to follow up with as well, how does the CPU get the called ball "1,2,etc" when it is a perfect strike! MLB All Stars for the NES was baseball at it's finest....see ball, hit ball.

The pitching cursor go back to fast making everybody's pitch go where you don't want it to. Last years use to be like that when you had somebody on base.

SOOO! Whats the most runs everybodies scored and how many stikeouts?

Me? 1 run and struck out 19 times in one game

3DO came out with High Heat 2000 with Curt Shilling on the cover. That was the best along with Triple Play 98

Most I've scored is 2 (in a game I lost 5-2). Most I've struck out 9 times in a single game (4 innings, so 9 of 12 outs via the swing and miss).

Does anyone know how to do a pick-off move? All I could figure out is to hit some button (I think a shoulder button) to step off the mound, then throw to a base. I thought that it'd just be other symbol buttons ( for 2nd, for 1st, for 3rd) but that didn't work.

Pick what pitch you want to throw first. then hit to throw it to what base you want it to. makes you throw it to the plate.

And the 19 strikeout was through 10 innings
