...and more important than all of the above: you can't project HDR with much more than a handful of nits.

EDIT: This is one Samsung have done that "Ambient mode" thing, and LG has the "Gallery mode" - there is no need for it to be a "large black object" in the living room when it's off any more.

Pardon me for asking, but could anyone please explain in a few bullitpoints what the important messages in this video are? No offense, I appreciate people sharing information through a video, but it is unwatchable for me because unfortunately I get motion sickness rather quickly and I have difficulty hearing what is being said.

And when Robert says these are the most important takeaways from CES this year, I'm quite interested to know what they are. Thanks in advance!

@peterv, Our 1st allocation of UB9000s are arriving today so sorry for the brief key takeaway points for now.

For professional or DIY calibrations:

- After calibration and measuring the peak luminance of your particular display (all displays have different peak luminance values) you have a menu setting to set your panel peak luminance so now for the 1st time LG 2019 TVs will perfectly follow the PQ HDR tone mapping so you will use your panels full luminance potential to deliver the best possible HDR image.

- Built-in 10bit test patterns to set contrast and other values to their peak performance.

New BFI Motion user interface:

This new feature can be used by pro, DIY and now everyone who learns about this simple but powerful new motion resolution menu settings. All a9 Generation 2 equipped 2019 LG TVs have four settings to adjust the "Black Frame Insertion" BFI to exactly what the user needs and likes for their environment and liking for each picture mode. Last year was the 1st time we had the choice of BFI on/off, but when selected on, (which is the 2019 enuilivalant of high) the image became too dark and some folks sensitive to flicker did not like it.

One I love actually came out in the 2018 LGD OLED panels and that's how the panel effectively picks up an additional bit depth. LGD has upgraded the chipset on the T-Con, which gives the image more bit depth in the final conversion from the digital signal to the analog lightwaves that the OLEDs generate and emit.

Most if not all of this has not been discussed nor has there been any interviews with the brilliant and highly skilled Neil Robinson who explains these difficult new advancements in easy to understand language.

Let's keep the discussion going so 2019 owners of LG's TVs will enjoy all of the new benefits in these new TVs.

Why is Panasonic no longer selling their TVs in the US?

Panasonic just couldn't compete in a market where they were was no space for them. Their TVs simply were not selling in comparison to the other marquis brands and the Inexpensive Asian Invasion was the mortar attack that drove them out of the American market.

Wow, if these estimates are valudates, it translates to a ~33% increase in aperature ratio.

At a minimum, that should mean a 33% slower aging rate (and 133% time to burn-in of 2018 WOLEDs).

It may also result in increased peak brightness levels (at least at D65) or at least relaxed ABL...

The bit depth thing might be why the 2018 panels have been largely free of such complaints re: banding a.k.a. posterisation while the earlier gens can still hit the occasional bump, particularly the 2016 models.

Oh, man.. I really don't wanna wait til Q4 to start truly watching 4K content for myself at home, but these 2019 LG display sets look almost too enticing to settle on an '18 now, in terms of only having to wait for the same price later this year

You know, I have to give Samsung props if what's being reported regarding their 2019 QLEDs is true. From the sounds of it, they've done what Sony did with "X-Wide Angle," except with far better results.

Sony’s; Just hazarding a guess, might just be X1 Ultimate chipped TVs.
