Default Question about Baraka

Hey all! I just purchased Baraka from amazon and I am totally excited, i was considering bringing it into my work as a demo disc to show customers what blu ray can really do. My question is does the movie have nudity?? If so I wont loop it at work just play certain chapters..thanks!

There is some scenes with brief nudity, but is merely naturalistic "national geographic" type, aboriginal nudity.

Yeah, if you're unsure, I would be careful. As previously stated, there is full-frontal nudity, both male and female. Though it's tasteful and "NatGeo style", some people may complain.

Congrats on your purchase though, the film is breathtaking, a very introspective look at the global relationship people have with the world, environment, and each other; much more developed than 'Chronos', which I didn't really care for.

Not only is it nudity, but nudity involving tribal children, tribal adolescents, tribal adults. I'd STRONGLY recommend against leaving the disc lying around to be played by an unsuspecting customer. You could find yourself in VERY hot water VERY FAST.

Yeah, while taking care to avoid said nudity be sure to loop the Auschwitz and corpse burning scenes on the Ganges.

Best you just leave Baraka at home. Play Transformers instead. That'll be more palatable to most.

Yeah, there are some tricky moments in the film that the wrong person would make a stink about if they saw it in the wrong context. Personally I'd loop the end with the glittering mosque and the Australian night sky, or the beginning with the snow ape in the hot springs. One of the more dazzling segements of the film.

You should go for it. As a consumer, I personally would rather see older titles with amazing PQ that expand the cinematic pallet of the normal shopper than the same old action sequences that played over and over again could get really boring.

Are Amazon shipping this is a standard case yet (as opposed to the cardboard disc scraper)?

There are some moments that are a bit Naqoyqatsi-overdone in Fricke's attempt to be faux-Qatsi (Grand Central commuters = Factory-processed baby chicks?...Puh and leeze. )

As good as it looks, though, still have to give a few points to Chronos for having a more unified Michael Stearns score--A Qatsi's all about the music, and it was a little anticlimactic to see that most of Baraka's soundtrack was from outside world-music groups...Although Dead Can Dance did provide one of the more memorable examples from the movie.

Planet Earth would be a better demo for the sensitive public.

We play Planet Earth at work, along with some Pixar movies, I just like to have my own demo discs available. (TDK and King Kong)

I think the Pixar suggestion is an excellent one. The PQ on Ratatouille is excellent, as is the one on Kung Fu Panda (Dreamworks). Both those films are suitable for all ages and can show off how good blu ray can look. Planet Earth likewise is a good choice...the volume can be turned off and the movie still enjoyed.

Yes, use this disc as a demo! Obviously just select a few parts as you've mentioned before. This 8k scan is amazing, and is THE finest looking thing I have seen in HD yet. Do it....
