Default Amazon dropping 4K titles from my library left and right!

This is getting REALLY frustrating!! I'm honestly on the verge of just dumping digital all together (digital is a fairly new endeavor for me) and just sticking with physical!!

Between titles not carrying over from one provider to another, UHD titles showing up as 1080P, missing titles, etc, etc, etc, it's just getting really frustrating at this point.

Now I see Amazon has downgraded about 80% of my 4K titles to 1080p. They were ALL there as 4K before but have (and continue to be) downgraded to lesser resolution.

The only ones remaining in 4K are Sony titles and two Disney titles (Infinity Wars and Black Panther, for some strange reason), all other titles are no longer 4K.

Anybody know what the heck is going on here with Amazon?

I don't know of any way to list just your 4k owned movies on Amazon, but I suppose you can try poking around here. This is their 4k link.

What are some specific titles missing? I spot checked and see Amazon still lists me at UHD except for Coco. I suspect this might be a Movies Anywhere issues, probably a temporary glitch.

Stop using Amazon, go to Vudu.

Why did you switch. Is it because others are?

The missing titles has nothing to do with Amazon, that was with iTunes. Just voicing (additional) frustrations on Digital as a whole. Btw, Coco WAS in UHD in Amazon when I first purchased. It has since been downgraded to 1080p

Vudu and/or MA is my preferred way to watch digital movies...but on my Panasonic UB820, my only options are Amazon and/or Youtube apps. I've tried the Shield but it has all sorts of issues when it comes to 4K.

I prefer to watch digital through my player if/when possible and Amazon is (at least for today) my only option. It's just disheartening that my 4K purchased titles, most of which were SHOWING in 4K in Amazon, have since been downgraded to 1080!

I switched for several reasons, but have no plans (EVER) of going "all digital". I do like the idea of having some of my collection in the cloud to share with family members or watch when away from home but the negatives are starting to FAR outweigh the benefits imo.

You should be using MA so that your titles will port. For those that don't, pick a retailer and stick with it as your main retailer so that they're not all over the place.

If they're downgraded, there's nothing you can do. But at least you'll know that you'll have 4k rights if someone else has it.

I guess the only thing I can say is be patient. iTunes, for example, downgrades a title's quality when they're making changes or removes something completely for a short period of time. They always show back up. Maybe Amazon is doing something similar.

I am primarily going the physical route if a 4K title doesn't have HDR digitally. I seem to be preferring HDR over Dolby Vision with this format.

I had a Sony title or two that were UHD for like a day or two on Amazon (via Movies Anywhere) last year before switching to HD for a couple months. They're now back in UHD on my end.

Amazon lists SD & HD titles separately from their 4K. You'll see something like
"Bad Boys" & "Bad Boys [Ultra HD]" in their store. It's a pain when searching for them, sometimes I can't even find the movies.

This. Amazon's interface is also not conducive for owning a collection over maybe 25x movies. I made the switch to VUDU when I hit about 35x movies in Amazon and have never looked back

I do (primarily) use MA whenever possible and always follow redemption sheet. Problem is, "most" of the offending titles are 4K in MA and/or Vudu. Ironically, my Sony 4K titles in HDX on Vudu (4K on MA/Fandango Now) are the ONLY ones still showing 4K in Amazon.

THAT is very interesting...

Maybe at some point they will change back. I'm not holding my breath though. Honestly, this reason is one of reasons why I don't like digital! Your content is being held at the mercy of a studio/provider.

And in this case...Amazon

If they're 4K in MA, they should be 4K on Amazon (if available).

Aside from "Coco", what films did you previously have in 4K on Amazon that are now HD?

SOOO many!! I just grabbed House with a Clock in it's Walls and Halloween (2018) and BOTH were UHD in Amazon...and than just went to 1080P!

Pretty much EVERY Warner and Universal title (The Matrix, Superman, GoodFellas, Skyscraper, The Mummy (2017) to name just a handful.

Amazon only offers Sony and Disney films in UHD, with a few Lionsgate, and a couple of independent studio titles.

None of the titles above have ever been offered in UHD on Amazon.

But I've seen them in UHD, and I'm sure of it...because I check these things often. I always want to see which titles are 4K, because that's all I really care about. And if that is the case with these studios (now), they were certainly 4K in Amazon before.

That's what I'm talking about with this whole Digital thing. The studios and providers have their own set of rules...which seems to change on an almost daily basis.

And if only Disney titles are in UHD on Amazon, why is Coco not?
