Default Players with feature to add external subtitles?

I have a problem that there are a lot of UHD's that aren't being released in my country, and are being released in other countries, with no subtitles in Dutch for the kids.

I know that the Oppo has the possibility to add external subtitles when playing a disc, but are there any other 4K players that have such a feature?
I have looked, but couldn't find any, but maybe somebody who actually owns such a player knows.

I made a thread because surely there are other users from other non-native English speaking countries who have the same problem.

Thanks in advance!

Given the amount of reactions, I guess I am the only one with this problem .
Or maybe the Oppo is the only player at the moment with this feature.
Oh well, I'm hope the 2019 players has a similiar feature.

This is also something I'm curious about, the Oppo is the only one I can find but since ending production the cost of the models are more prohibitive than ever

I didn't know the Oppo could do that. Does this work with 1080P Blu Rays too?

Does anyone know if other players have this feature ? I kinda want to buy an Oppo, but if another player has this feature, I would prefer to buy the one who will have longer support. I also want the player to work with anamorphic lenses.

Hoping someone here will be able to help me, thank you.

Thumbs up

Hy,

I'm from Romania and having the same problem. I already own an Oppo UDP 203, from the first day they launched it, but the problem is I need another one. I was interested to see if the new Pioneer LX 500 will do the trick for me.
If you find any, please also let me know.

All the best

You're not alone. I have the same problem too. I'm from Argentina and companies like "The Criterion Collection", "Shout! Factory", among others, release excellent editions of films (like "The Silence of the Lambs") but only subtitles in English for the deaf.

I'm thinking about buying the Panasonic UB820 and I was asking in several forums if I could do that. But nobody gave me confirmation of it. Also the feature of the Oppo was never announced by the company, it was something that a person discovered by testing with the player. When I buy it and the UB820 arrives I plan to do tests to see if subtitles can be added. If it works, I go directly to this group to announce it.

I'm glad I'm not just hahaha because there are many movies that I would like to buy but I do not because they only have subtitles in English.

I guess most of us end up remuxing. Not the best solution. I would love a player with extensive subtitle control though, external subs, subtitle size, position, luminance, transparency. If I knew of one that could at least control those aspects of subtitles in the streams I'd but one. The Panasonics can do luminance and position, but that is it. No external subs as far as I can see

Why isn't such a feature standard in players of today ?
I also would like to see another player that supports it, besides the overpriced Oppo

The possibility of adding external subtitles from the pendrive has Cambridge Audio CXUHD.

Anybody got an update for this problem? Any other players except the Oppo (and thus the Cambridge) known?

Here's what it looks like on my machine:

I am going to wait if Panasonic EEUU version 1.66 comes with the External Subtitles feature.
But there is the option with this firmware:

This feature is being discussed in the Panasonic UB820 / UB9000 thread.
Probably better to continue the discussion over there. It has activity daily.

You need pen drive/USB memory. Create folder named "sub" and copy subtitles of your choice in the folder and name it "sub.srt". You need to manually change and rename srt file for each disc. You need to make sure yourself that the timing of subtitles is correct. And remember, if there is no subtitles at all in the original disc this feature will not work. At least one set of subtitles is required to be on disc.
