Annapurna Pictures which Fox releases currently don’t do 4K’s.

Annapurna quickly went to my favorite up and coming studio, to just making so many disappointing choices.

This is an excellent film, and I'll definitely be picking it up. It's tragic, heartfelt, and has some unforgettable performances (especially from Kiki Layne). The musical score is also quite effective. I'll watch anything from Barry Jenkins. My film professor says he went to Florida State with him, and has nothing but kind things to say about him.

Phantom Thread got a 4K release but I guess that's because Focus co produced it with Annapurna.

Annapurna produced Phantom Thread, but they didn't have distribution rights (Focus/Universal did). We're talking about films they distributed in theaters themselves like Detroit, Vice, Beale Street, and Sorry to Bother You, which are released on home video through their licensing deal with Fox. None of those have gotten 4K UHDs. I think it's actually Fox that doesn't want to release these films on 4K. They don't release very many films in the format, and they probably just don't think these films are successful enough to warrant 4Ks. They're also not releasing The Favourite (a Fox Searchlight film) in 4K. Last year, they did put out Three Billboards and The Shape of Water, but both were much bigger box office successes, and also the two front-runners for Best Picture.

Thanks, yeah its pretty frustrating. Annapurna and A24 are my favorite production companies and its annoying that their distributors (Fox and Lionsgate) seem to be holding their libraries back, but what really bothers me is this new trend of a lot of titles are getting 4K digital releases only, not so much Annapurna but A24 and Fox titles like The Favourite have been getting 4K digital only.
