Default Calibrating Yamaha RX-V663

Hi,

I am not an expert on H.T. setups so I need your help figuering out why after calibrating my v663 receiver no bass is coming out on my sub? I have a 5.1 setup and my set of speakers include:

2 - Tsi 300 Polk Audio Floor Standing Speakers
1 - Tsi 100 Polk Audio Center speakers
2 - Polk Audio Satellite Surround speakers
1 - Klipsh sub-10 subwoofer.

Can any one help? What setup do you all recommand with this system?

Thanks!

  • Check all cables. Make sure they are all connected properly.
  • Go to the Setup menu of the receiver. Make sure all your speakers including the subwoofer are turned on.
  • Check the crossover of the subwoofer in the receiver's menu. Make sure it is somewhere between 80Hz and 100Hz.
  • Go to the back of the subwoofer. Turn the volume of the sub to 50% to 75%.
  • On the back of the subwoofer, turn the crossover frequency to its highest point. The receiver is controlling your crossover. You want this to be at its maximum point.

i did the Auto setup and my sub is very quiet while watching tv but when i watch blu-rays its a monster when it needs to be. The manual says to put the volume to a little less than half and the crossover all the way up.

Yes, that's where I ended up setting mine too, at about 10 o'clock position. With that setting, YPAO set my subwoofer level to +0.5 db. Thus that better matched the other speakers which were set to +/- 1.0 db. I like it when YPAO sets all the speaker levels close to 0.0 db. Then you have more headroom for making fine adjustments if needed.

Yes, I did ran YAPO and did hear the sub during the yapo test. Before starting the yapo, I set the sub cross to max and the volume or gain to slightly below half just as the yapo instructions recommanded. After the calibration test was done and didn't get any warnings or errors I accepted the settings. Then I tested it out by transformers on my ps3 and noticed that sub wasn't producing any base and instead it was my front speakers that were generating my lows or base. I notice after the yapo calibration my settings for my front speakers were set to large including the center speaker. Is this right and is this the cause of my issues?

Thanks

There is a sticky about setting speaker size.

I ran the YAPO setup and then went in and did the manual setup to tweak it. I set all of the speakers to small, had the LFE only going to the sub, and set the crossover to 80hz. The crossover on my sub is all the way up, and the power on the sub is set to a little over half way. The power to the sub from the receiver is way under half.

...And my setup sounds perfect!
