I don't really know much about it. Oliver Stone directed. I remember when it was out in theaters, and friends who went to see it really liked it, but that doesn't help you any. I get the impression that it is a, 'watch once' sort of film, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing of you enjoyed it and got something out of it.

Oliver Stone ruins almost everything he touches..... Platoon is his crowning achievement, and he's been tarnishing good ideas ever since. I haven't seen "W" yet... probably won't..... I haven't seen "World Trade Center" for personal reasons, and I can assure you, I never will.... |

This movie does not lambaste Bush like many had hoped. Instead, Stone takes a lot of factual happenings and turns them into the story of why he believes Bush has made the decisions that he did. Surprisingly decent movie, but for all the die hard Bush haters, they will be disappointed that he wasn't treated that bad at all. Brolin is great. Definitely rent first though, cause this isn't a movie I would see picking out of a vast blu collection to watch more than once or twice unless you REALLY like it.

It follows the same storyline like Walk the Line did, He reminisces alot of past occurrences and how he was always in Jeb's shadows as he tried to please his dad . I watched it the other night and enjoyed it but will probably never watch it again though. SO most likely rental quality

Wow I guess I might be renting it afterall. I have recently discovered JB to be a great actor, and was thinking about blind buying this. But seeing as not one person has recommended it as a good add to the collection, I'll stick to Netflix.

I felt the movie was a little disappointing, especially when compared to Stone's "Nixon" or even the way "W" was being sold in the ads. It was a bit too low-key and muted, and not enough time has passed for any kind of historical objectivity.
Stone's thesis in "Nixon" was a bit more sure-footed-- that he might have been a great president if he wasn't haunted by his insecurities and driven to one-up those who judge. You got a sense of the whole life of the man and how his character-- and character flaws-- formed over time. "W" is a bit more superficial: Bush is driven by a desire to prove himself worthy to his father. But Stone isn't exactly breaking new ground here; it's what a lot of people have come to believe over the years. So why do we need Stone to tell us this? What fresh perspective does he offer? Unfortunately, I didn't feel like I learned anything new after seeing this. I think the biggest problem with "W" is that it's too brief and too soon to be as insightful as it was intended to be. |
