Default Playstation3

Good morning all, I am having a problem with my PS3. I cannot insert or eject any movies or games. I can push the movie in manually but that's all. I already tried holding down the eject button for 10 seconds as it forces the disc out , then I shut it off for a bit then turn on the system and it still will not take the disc. Please tell me I can fix this myself. I am out of warranty.

Thanks for your assistance
Steve

On your xmb can you go over to the disc and hit triangle and scroll to eject disk... if that and the eject button do not work, then I would suggest asking Marine Mike for advice on this one.

Check out the guide in my signature for opening it up.

Also let me post something in here for you to check after you have opened it to check.

What I want you to do is disemble your PS3 and make sure the disc drive looks exactly how it is here:

Take special note of the middle section (magnet) rests on top of the white arms.

Also notice on the very bottom there is a small metal clip which holds the drive flap open. If the clip is dislodged, just wiggle it back up there back so the flap freely opens and closes.

Honestly, all you need to do is make sure that your disc drive looks identical to what my pictures show and you will not have any problems.

When you disembled your PS3, did you already have a disc in there? If thats the case then I believe that the 'arms' are stuck on place therefore its not 'moving' the disc into the slot.

Now look carefully on the right side of the photo. Notice that there are two 'arms' that slide in a semi-circle? They should move freely and not have to be forced. What happened with me is that they became 'stuck' and wouldn't move. What I had to do was slightly pull them 'up' and move them back on track until they felt 'right'.

They are the 'white parts' on the right side of the photo. They are like arms on the track which move left to right. They should be when the disc goes into the drive. If they are 'locked' in place then no disc will be able to go into the drive. So gently lift them and move them back and forth until they get back on track.

I figured Marine Mike did the laser replacement guide so he would have "deeper insight" on fixing the problem.

Weird how he just appeared after me mentioning his name though..

If your PS3 is still under warranty send it back to Sony, don't open it up as it voids your warranty.

Edit: shit didn't read OP very well! Even then give Sony a call, it will probably be less than $399 to fix.

now if only this thread had a relevant title so other can search for it and not make another thread called "Sony Playstation 3" about how cool the controller is, but the drive doesn't work.
