I think this would look mighty fine on UHD.

We probably would not be able to get the director’s cut though due to the elements available.

Probably not, but I'd still settle for the 93 min Euro version. Plays nearly the same and the elements were in better shape.

There's a possibility to get the director's cut in 4K, it's available on standard Blu-ray.

Of course it is possible, but the quality may not be great. The disclaimer on the Blu notes that the director’s cut comes from elements a few generations away from the source. I believe that was the best they could find.

Here is what Ridley Scott himself said:

"For years before its release on DVD, the Legend Director's Cut was thought to have been lost forever. However, in 2000, it was miraculously located in the form of a pristine answer print, which was later transferred for DVD. Answer prints by their nature offer limited latitude in the transfer process, commonly resulting in less-then-optimal picture quality. Such is the case with Legend Director's Cut. Newly re-transferred in 2011 for this Blu-ray release, the limitations of the answer print are now even more apparent in high definition. However, given its one-and-only source element, the Director's Cut looks as good as it possibly can and I am pleased to include it on this Blu-ray release as both an archival curiosity for fans and a digital preservation of my original vision for the film."

And yet the Director's Cut transfer looks miles better than the Theatrical transfer:

(Of course that's the fault of the theatrical cut being a typical Universal job).

The Director's Cut would look fine in 4K--it's not like it's some burnt out old 16mm reel.

European cut or director's cut in 4K, please. Not the US travesty with the Tangerine Dream score!

and Fox Home Video (UK) transfer of the European cut is by far and away the best of the three versions.

I would definitely pick this up. I think, as a general rule, that every Ridley Scott film should be given the 4K UHD treatment.. These are the ones I want the most:

-Kingdom of Heaven Extended Director's Cut
-Legend
-1492
-White Squall
-Thelma and Louise
-GI Jane

This badly needs an upgrade, but only if it’s the theatrical cut (or both, ideally). The DC ruins the movie, IMO. The Tangerine Dream score is essential.

I can't imagine ever watching this without Goldsmith's score.

Goldsmith’s score just sounds like generic orchestral fare to my ears. Nowhere near the visceral effect TD’s music creates with Scott’s images.

On top of that, I really hate a lot of the editing choices Scott makes in the DC. The only scene I like better in the DC is the Meg Mucklebones encounter.

If they release Legend in 4K, can they make the Director's Cut with the Tangerine Dream score? Lol. I've always loved that score, but I like the Director's Cut more.

In any case, I would absolutely love Legend in 4K UHD. Universal's Theatrical Cut Blu-ray picture quality sucks big time. But considering how they've improved with other 4K titles, there is hope they won't screw up this time.
