Sony Pictures Stan & Ollie (2018)

Quote:
Laurel & Hardy, one of the world’s greatest comedy teams, set out on a variety hall tour of Britain in 1953. Diminished by age and with their golden era as the kings of Hollywood comedy now behind them, they face an uncertain future. As the charm and beauty of their performances shines through, they re-connect with their adoring fans. Even as the tour becomes a hit, Stan & Ollie can’t quite shake the specter of Laurel & Hardy’s past; the long-buried ghosts, coupled with Oliver’s failing health, start to threaten their precious partnership. A portrait of the most tender and poignant of creative marriages, they are aware that they may be approaching their swan song, trying to rediscover just how much they mean to each other.

Sweet. I was only seeing the pre-orders for the DVD. Glad this showed up.

I've been hearing good things about this film. This will be a blind buy pre-order for me.

From the clips I've seen I've been especially impressed with Coogan's Laurel.
He seems to have Stan's movements down to T.

Being a huge fan of Stan & Ollie this is probably the only new film I'm looking forward to seeing this year.

Saw it in the theater and it was fabulous. Both actors were great.but I'd say Reilly's interpretation of Oliver, (Babe), Hardy was the best. He and make up should have gotten at least Oscar nominations.

As Forbes mentions in its story about the Samsung withdrawal from the 4K format, at least one studio has decided against releasing 4K Ultra HD disc versions of its forthcoming films, with at least two of them being Oscar contenders.

The Favourite, Stan & Ollie, and Will Ferrell's Holmes And Watson will not be released in the format. Although it is highly likely that they will get 4K digital releases down the line.

Default Mod?

I'm seeing the listings popping up for this claiming it's an MOD Blu-ray.

Really?

Yes, it's a pressed (replicated) MOD.

Excellent, wonderful film. Reilly and Coogan are absolutely perfect. Everyone really did their homework because you really get a tangible sense of the deep friendship Laurel and Hardy had, but also their wives' love.

Among the highlights of the film are the re-enactments on stage from some of their films. It says a lot when one can just watch it like the original and it's every bit as funny. And the opening shot of the film is a pretty impressive long take that sneaks by (I realized near the end there wasn't any cuts).

Pressed MOD? I thought pressed was pressed, and "MOD" burned?

Nope.

These are pressed according to demand. So if it sells out, you might have to wait a while before your order ships.

Manufactured on Demand or Media on Demand (MOD) used to be exclusively associated with burned discs, but that hasn't been the case for a while. MOD is also used for replicated (pressed) titles which are produced in small batches.

The Sony and Universal MOD releases use the Allied Vaughn program just like the Warner Archive releases. The one difference from "normal" releases is that the cover art is printed on laser printers instead of the normal printing process.

Yes but, what exactly does that mean in simple terms? Is there a difference between a regular Blu-ray and an MOD disc?

If there aren’t anymore orders they don’t press anymore. When that happens is anyone’s guess.

Shit! I am ok with MOD.
The bad thing about MOD, is that the $22.99 price may not drop anytime soon.

I pre-ordered this on Amazon— only to get a notice that it's not going to be delivered until between May 2 and June 12. WTF? Cancelling and ordering through Amoeba.

Never dealt with Amoeba. Decent company? At least they have free shipping, though the price they want must include shipping. Are they reliable to ship product fairly quickly?
