I really enjoy this movie especially the scenes with Sophie Marceau. She really made this movie for me in a lot of ways. This movie certainly isn't a great Bond movie but it's certainly above average even with Denise Richardson's awful acting.

Just saw Braveheart on one of the HD channels over the weekend. And Sophie Marceau was great in it!

Wow, thank you so much for your kind words. You are absolutely right, on paper this would have been Brosnan's best. For once there were no rockets in space nor a maniacal villian intent on taking over the world, but a somewhat plausible story about oil interests, which given today's society is still relevant!

If they had come up with better action that actually advanced the story as opposed to slowing it down, it would have worked out to be a better film despite Denise Richards. For me I put this one behind Goldeneye for Brosnan and maybe a step ahead of TOMORROW NEVER DIES.

TWINE has never been demo material due to Adrian Biddle's surprisingly bland cinematography. The film itself is ok and probably Brosnan's second best Bond film; none of his four films are classics of the series.

I loved this film so much better then the overly simplistic Tomorrow Never Dies which had terrible villains, very little plot, boring side characters and a bland final act which goes on for way too long. The World is not Enough has a far more complex grander storyline with more interesting characters including great villains and plot twists and very well done action sequences. Both sequels have good scores, gadgets and Brosnan himself seems to get better with each passing film (haven't seen Die Another Day yet), but its clear to me which is the better written and directed film out of the 2.

I liked this film in general, although the story is quite ludicrous. Denice Richards as a nuclear scientist though, along with her bad acting is amusing at first, but now in hindsight just drags the whole film down.

Anyway as for the transfer, am I the only one that saw a ridiculous amount of edge enhancement!?!? The white ringing was really unbearable more so in the first half of the film! My sharpness setting is pretty low too, but even for experimental sake, putting it on 0 which I don't do generally because it actuelly artificially softens the picture on my display, shows the obvious EE.

Its not so bad in the 2nd half, but its still quite visible. Can anyone else see it??

Didn't notice it myself. but generally, sharpness setting should be set at 0, or it just created MORE artificial EE through the TV.

The 0 sharpness setting isn't good for all HDTVs. Like I said, for my display, it actuelly artificially makes the image softer then what it really is which is just as bad as edge enhancement. This review also makes mention of the annoying EE I saw - http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/2062....html#Section3

I think TWINE was a good movie.

It got a bad reputation imo. TWINE was definitely better than TND.

Both films suffer from bad casting, but the difference is that Tomorrow Never Dies has much better casting of the three leads, Brosnan and Yeoh are well-suited to their roles, while Pryce makes for a decent villain, at least given the nature of the character. Wonky casting can be found in the strange insertion of Americans, like Teri Hatcher (admittedly, beautiful here, before all the surgery), who is sorely out of her depth, Ricky Jay in a kind of strange role as "Mr. Gupta" (???) looking uncomfortable, as well as the cartoon German henchman Stamper, and maybe even the minor role of Dr. Kaufman (played by Vincent Schiavelli), but these are all smaller roles.

However, in The World Is Not Enough, you have major casting decisions that are bizarre, and not just Denise Richards as a "nuclear physicist". What on Earth possessed EON to think Robert Carlyle was a good fit for Renard? I'm a fan of Carlyle's, but he's hardly intimidating, and even moreso back in 1999, when his lead role in The Full Monty--which was undoubtedly what helped him get cast here--was fresh in the memory. Moreover, any chemistry with Sophie Marceau is unfortunately absent, unlike her scenes with Brosnan.

In fact, I think if EON really insisted on casting Richards, they should have cast her as Elektra, reduced the role so she tries to seduce Bond, but doesn't have a consummated love scene with him, and given Marceau the role of the nuclear physicist, obviously changing the character's name to something less American as well.

As for supporting characters, it's a bit weird to have Goldie as Zukovsky's bodyguard (thank God they brought Coltrane back as well, since his performance is pretty fun), but he's the least of the casting issues.

Of course, woeful casting choices continued with Die Another Day and Halle Berry, who is obviously gorgeous and a fine actor, but, not unlike Teri Hatcher, Berry just feels out of place and lacked chemistry with Brosnan. And Toby Stephens is completely forgettable as well, to say nothing of the weird plot machinations that mean he isn't who he appears to be.

This and QoS are the most underrated Bonds. Replace Richards with just about anyone else and people would remember this movie much more fondly. And if one can argue that Goldeneye owes much of its reputation to the N64 game, TWINE's was even better, so that could only have helped.

I think Carlyle looks more like a henchman rather than main villain. He's a damn good actor but the character is not great and he's miscast.

Richards is miscast. Carlyle is fine, the whole invincible thing doesn't work if they cast someone who actually looks invincible lol

If Carlyle had played Renard the way he played Begbie in TRAINSPOTTING, he'd have been the scariest goddamn Bond villain ever.

For me, this it THE Bond movie where you can actually feel that the action scenes are directed by another person. It's like watching two separate movies and should've been credited as Directed by Michael Apted and Vic Armstrong.

I always thought The World is Not Enough was very underrated. It's one of my favourite Bond films. It also has my favourite Bond song by Garbage.

There's an excellent reissue of the soundtrack by La La Land Records containing the entire David Arnold score, limited edition.
