Check the disc to make sure it doesn't have any residue or contamination instead of being pristine. Glad it stared to play.

So it played then it froze lol. Returned it for a new disc and kept getting the “disc does not meet specifiactions”. Just returned the player and swapped for a Sony X-800. Only drawback now is if anything is DTS only I won’t get surround due to having a Sonos system. I just buy all the wrong equipment lol

Your issues with Blade Runner:2049 disc are a good reminder to avoid Samsung disc players. |

Same problem here - the "Scary Stories to Tell In the Dark" disc "does not meet the specifications." I also tried the disc in my Panasonic UNIVERSAL blu-ray player, which will play ANYTHING including old DVD-Rs that have deteriorated to where nothing else will even recognize them, with the same result (message this time was "wrong region code for this player" which should be impossible).
I took it back to Best Buy and they stuck it in a Sony player and it worked fine. I see that lots of other people have been having this same problem. My faith in Samsung is shaken as they don't seem to be doing anything about it. What happened to this brand, which was so good just a year ago? |

Never had this problem with my LG UBK90. Maybe look into that player.

The problem seems to be limited to the 8500 and 9500 series of player. Has anyone had success with these DVDs *and* those models?

But it doesn't play the new Craig Bond 4Ks. Fox Movies claims it's a firmware issue, but I learned today that Samsung is now out of the 4K player biz, so that would explain why the firmware hasn't been upgraded for new encodings. Time for a new player for me, and of course Samsung is *right* out. Chris |

I have a similar problem with the movie "MacArthur", a Walmart Exclusive. I played the disc twice and now my Sony BDP-S3100 Blu-ray Disc Player with Wi-Fi (2013 Model) "Cannot operate disc". You can see the front label from the back like you can on some disc; but, that's doesn't appear to be the problem. The disc is clean by-the-way.Any ideas, I usually like Sony products cause they play everything.

Previous version: 1111 New version: 1113 The discs that didn't work before Casino Royale 4K: wouldn't play past the logo Quantum of Solace 4K: would play past the logo, but skipped through the entire disc. (I didn't try the other 2 Bond discs in this set.) After update: the discs did the exact same things. I replaced the player with a Sony a month back and all 4 of the discs in that set play fine on it. Chris |
