With it's one of a kind atmosphere, genuine scary moments, GREAT acting, directing and story telling from the beginning to the end, it stands one of the best at the genre in my books. But still, I won't double dip it.

I asked Scream Factory on Twitter if their release was going to have a new scan and they replied that they “were unsuccessful in trying to get a new transfer approved here. Sorry.” I hope the extra features are worth it for others to pick this Blu-ray up.

That makes some sense given the absorption of Fox into Disney. At this point, I'm sure any remastering already in progress is continuing as necessary, but Fox have probably put new transfers on hold until the merger is finished.

Of course, I'm only speculating, but it would seem to make sense.

That doesn't surprise me as Fox doesn't allow most labels to do their own scans (even most of Criterion's Fox titles were done by Fox).

One of the biggest issues I have with the current disk is the lack of that documentary feature on the dvd. I hope they go all in on that type of stuff with the original case this is based off of.

I knew someone who worked at FOX in NY when this film was screened for the employees only - she saw a much longer version and was told it would be edited down for theatrical release. Too bad that version has never been see since. More so - too bad it's not been considered for this release.

I hope it still exists. I would love to see an extended edit.

I read the feature article in Rue Morgue (July, 2012 issue), there’s an interview with the director and the actor that played the son.

Some very interesting stuff was cut from the script: the entity invaded the mother’s dreams, forcing her to have very impure thoughts about her (handsome) son (sadly never shot).
