Thought we needed a spin-off

Breaking Bad would be my pick. The Office was pretty great as well for a recent comedy.

Breaking Bad immediately comes to mind. It was great in its own right and it seemed even greater coming as it did a week after the Dexter fiasco. Talk about a study in contrasts.

Other good ones...

NYPD Blue really wrapped things up well, I thought. Hill Street Blues did too but NYPD Blue seriously nailed it.

Star Trek: The Next Generation was very good. So was The Wire. Neither are GFOAT contenders but they were very solid.

The Office was pretty good too. I hated that they jumped head first into that 'Mad About You Let's Wrap Up a Comedy with Pathos' trap but they recovered nicely.

ER did a decent job too.

NYPD Blue's ending is gonna get seriously f***ed up with the premise of the revival.

I thought Six Feet Under had a good ending. It tied in nicely with the theme of the show.

The Shield has the best series finale I've seen. I also love the final episodes for:

Parks and Recreation
The Office (U.S.)
Justified
Fringe
Episodes
M*A*S*H*
WKRP in Cincinnati (not intended to be final)
Newsradio (ditto)

I think Star Trek: The Next Generation is my all-time favorite series finale.

Also really liked the finales for Justified, Wings and Home Improvement. The finale for Ash vs. Evil Dead, even though it wasn't intended to be the series finale, was pretty cool, too.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Babylon 5
Battlestar Galactica (1978) Not really a finale but it ended with the audience knowing they were on the right track. And then that other show happened a year later and ruined it.

And I agree with the above post, the finale of Newhart was priceless.

I haven't seen it for a few years. But I finished the whole series DVD again a month ago. I always liked the ending for Monk.
