Default Digital streaming and the Disney Vault

Now that the Disney Vault is dead do you think they will add all their movies for purchase on MA, Vudu and iTunes? I would love to have Fantasia on streaming.

I wouldn't be surprised if they wait for a BD re-release before they allow people to purchase them again. Because they will still want to push the service as much as possible.

They'll just use the vault as a way to entice people to subscribe to their service. I very much doubt they'll just end the vault.

Fantasia was available on Netflix for the longest time, defying the vault. But anyway, Snow White and Princess and the Frog are available in a 2 pack in one of the this week's Vudu sales. SW is a traditional vault title. There's no reason to believe Fantasia won't be available for purchase too when it comes out (most likely after Cinderella this year or holidays).

But if I were you, I'd just buy the disc release that comes with a digital copy then sell the disc if you didn't want it. They price their digital copies same as retail so you don't really save anything.

fantasia isn't available on disc + digital. It's one of the few animated titles that still isn't available.

This is interesting..."Captain Marvel will be the first Disney+ exclusive film following theatrical release"

So I wonder if that means no Blu-ray/4K release and not available for purchase via Vudu and other services.

https://www.theverge.com/2019/2/5/18...iger-streaming

Also, I only just realized that Nat Geo is part of the Fox purchase by Disney, so we can expect those $4.99 documentaries to go up to $17.99

Disney will surely continue with Blu-Rays and I can understand that they'll keep their productsoffoaher subscription services but I hope we can still buy them on platforms like iTunes.

This was to be expected when Disney streaming was announced that it will limit it films to its service. All that means is that the only subscription service that will have future Disney titles will be Disney plus, not Netlix or Amazon Prime or Apple's upcoming streaming service.

It mentions that the service will begin late 2019, so unless they're foing to wait till August or September to release it on home media, it should still be on Vudu, iTunes, Amazon, FNow or GP to purchase.

It is still far more valuable to sell on physical and digital copies than what streaming sub would offer Disney. Since they mentioned that it would be cheaper than Netflix ($10) per month and Disney will roughly 6-8 films a year plus whatever they do with Fox titles, the monthly fee won't bring in the same value as selling physical and digital copies would. Then calculate all the original programming into the equation, it would be foolish for a company that wants to make as much money as possible to forgo sell physical and digital copies.

Disney is not going to cut off that money stream from physical sales.

The Blu-ray/4k include digital copy per the early listing, so safe bet it will be for sale on the MA partners.

I’m sure they said it was going to be global with a rollout in 2020 for everyone else. (maybe 2021 in U.K with Brexit confusion) The UK normally gets shafted though, so don’t hold your breath.

Ireland and the UK already have have Disney streaming service - DisneyLife.

I'm hoping they put the Mandolorian on that if we aren't getting Disney+ when it launches.

Like I said in my post, it's most likely the next Signature collection release after Cinderella this summer. Expect it either for this holiday season or at the beginning of the year to coincide with the film's 80th anniversary. This digital+ thing does not mean they are stopping physical sales. The "Captain Marvel exclusive" thing just meant they're not putting it on Netflix like all the other Disney films have been.

I've been saying for a while now that the vault is BS, especially when it comes to digital distribution. Let's be honest here, once a movie is released on physical it's available digitally forever because the internet. I'll just leave it at that.

DisneyLife might not have everything but there is a ton of stuff on there. As far as I know it is the only attempt at a Disney streaming service.

And it does have Marvel and Star Wars content.

And it most certainly has had Pixar titles. It where I’ve seen a couple for the first time. Inside Out to name one.
