Default Gambit - Un hold-up extraordinaire

hello

Can anyone tell me if Gambit is in English & are the subtitles burnt in or can be switched off?

also is the ratio correct, rather than the German disc.

thank you

regards
Andy

Gambit is in English, NO subtitles burned in with the English audio (apart from 2 names; one naming Un hold-up extraordinaire and the other naming a hotel, both at the beginning of the film, and even then this is in the black border underneath the film. And that is it

Audio is perfect (presumably lossless), virtually no minor hiss even at high volume

Visuals > are at the level of a high quality Indicator release (high mb rate - dual layered blu ray). Colours really ping on the blu ray. Motion is excellent

It is also in the correct aspect ratio 2 : 35 : 1

Like buying an Indicator release

OK, to plonk a spanner into the works of film history, there are clearly 2 versions of Gambit; the well-known anamorphic 'Scope version AND a 16:9 flat version, both derived from the original (flat) Techniscope neg.
Unless someone wishes to claim that Concorde went back to the original neg, pan & scanned it and then automagically recreated the credits to fit...?

I don't claim to know why Universal would have made 2 versions (TV maybe?), but they clearly did so.

Top is the 'Scope dvd, below the German 16:9 Blu-Ray:

Just got a copy of the French blu-ray. It is the scope version above. It is the same master as the US Universal Vault Series mod DVD. It looks a bit better than the dvd, but it isn't spectacular.
The special features have a 20 minute segment of someone talking about the film, its director & stars, but it is in French without English subtitles.
