Under Seige

I hated Steven Seagal and the whole Die Hard on a ______ formula was stale as hell. The movie turned out to be one of the most tightly crafted action film of the 90's and it had a couple of great villains in Busey and Jones. Director Andrew Davis would go on to direct The Fugative.

I hated how the ads marketed How to Train Your Dragon as "Dreamworks Dragons". It's like, if you wanted to call the movie that, you could have named it that...

How to Train Your Dragon had some truly terrible trailers, and it followed an awful run of DreamWorks movies like Over the Hedge, Shrek the Third, Bee Movie, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, and Monsters Vs. Aliens. (Kung Fu Panda was the one exception). Meanwhile, Pixar was making Ratatouille, WALL-E, and Up. I had no reason to think Dragon would be different from their usual fare.

The Lord of the Rings. I was pretty much like Randall from Clerks 2, when he said how all it was was basically a lot of walking, talking, and fighting. But thankfully, unlike Randall, I was willing to give it a chance, and ended up enjoying it.

Same for me. I told myself I'd never watch it, then I finally did on one lazy, spring Sunday. Still haven't picked it up yet for my collection.

Another I've never watched to this day is Avatar. I was busy with work training when it came out, I just didn't have time. Then I met my now ex fiancee, her favorite movie, which drove me away from it even further. Yeah I know that's childish. I'm just waiting for the 4K SteelBook to come along someday before I finally snatch one u and watch it.

I don't think I've ever hated a film before I watched it, I recall thinking ,"Leather heads" looked stupid and then two weeks later I went on a date and she picked Leather heads...yep, It was stupid. I have seen some great Trailers and thought to me self that man! That's going to be good! Only to find out that it was crap. And a couple trailers made me think mehhh, waste of my time. Then years later when I'm stuck flipping through channels I might check and see if it's any good but so far I've been spot on... I guess for fun I will go rent Power Rangers as I always hated the show and see if that's any good.

I'd have to say Zootopia. Pixar let me down with The Good Dinosaur, I was not looking forward to Finding Dory, and I didn't think I'd like Moana. I was also less than enthused by the trailers I had seen prior to its release.
Fast forward to Black Friday and I saw it for a cheap price, I thought I'd at least get it for the Disney reward points and then give it to someone. After getting home, I decided to give it a watch and I really enjoyed it. Not my favorite Disney film by any means but it was enjoyable and had a decent message. I've watched it a few times since buying it.

I'll echo the comments on How to Train Your Dragon. I was about to graduate high school when that film came out in 2010. My friend really wanted to see it, but I thought it looked really silly (especially compared to the imminent release of Toy Story 3). But later that summer I decided to watch it on the airplane.... 10/10.

I came close to hating the Disney Cinderella remake, as even then I was annoyed at the company remaking their animated back catalogue [which has since got worse], seemingly just because "we've got CGI now, we can do anything". But actually it turned out to be a really lovely film, kind of old fashioned I guess to some but in the best way....and possibly better than the cartoon.

Beauty and the Beast on the other hand....

Was that formula really "stale as hell" by 1992? Only 4 years after the release of Die Hard? Surely it would be some more years before the formula was overdone. I mean how many Die Hard clones were there between Die Hard and Under Siege?

I usually have a concern more then a hate if the Advertising is off with the film. There been more films that the advertising had hyped up and the film a major let-down then the advertising more concerning and the film being a bit better then advertised.

Captain Marvel for Example being the new one. Hated the advertising and made me very concerned for the film with the over the top SJW advertising but why the film still had some SJW messages it was no where near as bad as say ghostbusters 2016. Was it marvel's best film no. Was it their worst again no. It was a little fun but advertising failed to portray that by a large margin.

I do place it way down on the list of marvel films and everyone is going to have a different list based on what they liked about it. This buddy cop type film people might like more then the Avengers team up and some others won't.

What is more concerning to me was the lack of respect for peoples views when it came to the advertising. There had been both men and women views that really got concerned with the advertising (and they placed the views of women as men to boost their argument).

Yes there are some trolls out there but not everyone is but I seen men been called all names under the sun because of their own views on captain marvels marketing (not review bombing as others called it but expressing what they don't like and they are entitled to have that opinion even if people don't agree with them). If the marketing is getting criticised and turning some people off then clearly it's doing something wrong. I'll be interested to see next weeks box office numbers for Captain Marvel.
