i'm guessing there's going to be a poll for this, but i say

John Shea on Lois & Clark.

He was a truly admirable foe for Superman: dark, twisted, just pure evil, everything Lex should be. John's portrayal was phenomenal imo. I actually got to meet him once and he is an awesome guy. Rosenbaum comes in at a very close second.

Michael Rosenbaum. Hands down the best. He wasn't too famous before he started it like others have, and he's still best known for his role on Smallville and being Lex Luthor the best.

I thought he portrayed and personified Lex better than anyone else.

I am partial as well because I have several of his autographs in which he signed Michael Rosebaum "Lex Luthor". Love it!!

That is a hard one to answer.

Gene Hackman was wonderful playing him if a little campy at time but still a joy to watch.

John Shea was just incredible as Lex, very Machiavellian to the core.

Kevin Spacey was great, a return to Gene Hackam type of Luthor

Michael Rosenbaum as been amazing but he's also had 8 years to bring his character to life.

So my favorite Superman is Christopher Reeve, so I will go with my favorite Lex Luthor is Gene Hackman

I'm actually kinda torn between Michael Rosenbaum and Clancy Brown. I don't like my Lex to be goofy and Clancy has portrayed the best adult "used to clashing with Superman" Lex. But I can easily see Michael being Clancy's Lex when he was younger.

It has to be Rosenbaum. His version is really the best modern makeover of any long-time villain from comics. The only thing that was less than perfect was the small difference in age between him and Welling. I would have preferred him to be portrayed as significantly older than Clark. A lot of the business aspect of the character did not ring true because of that.

I'm torn as well. Love Hackman but Rosenbaum really did a number in Smallville. His descent into darkness has been one of the things that make that show so great. Especially when you tie in how mean Lex is in the comics and movies. (where he has no trouble to kill millions of people) Rosenbaum has walked that path perfectly.

CANT... DECIDE.... TOO... HARD!!!

I voted for Gene Hackman but I also liked Michael Rosembaum as well. Rosenbaum had an entire series to flesh out his version of Luthor.

Gene Hackman is generally a great actor. His Luthor was suitable for the intent of the Reeve's movies but he can play truly evil, mean, sadistic characters if the settings called for it. Just check out movies like: the Quick and the Dead, Unforgiven, Crimson Tide.

I voted too fast. I voted for Kevein Spacey but Michael Rosenbaum was fantastic as Lex Luthor in Smallville. Especially near the season finale of season 7.
