Default what is the best sound bar to use with the ps3?

I know the PS3 has limitations with regards to its output compared to the highest quality audio available. However, I do not need something super loud because this will be going in my room, which does not have the space available for multiple speakers.

So here is my set up, PS3 connected to 30in sony wega via HDMI. If anyone has a good idea for a sound bar, around $500, though if there is clearly "the best one" for more do not hesistate to put it here. Also, what else will I need? Im mostly concerned with and HDMI splitter, since the PS3 only has one HDMI jack and I will need to connect to both the sound bar and the tv. Thanks

What are you talking about the PS3 has audio limitations? Why can't you just get a real setup with smaller speakers? A soundbar will never sound as good as separate equipment and speakers. The PS3 does all HD audio codecs too so I don't quite understand your comment. May I ask where you got that information? It really bothers me. Seriously.

Definitive Technology SSA42 or SSA50. These received hugely positive reviews. ...just don't get one delivered by UPS.

a Crappy LG 5 speaker system , poor sound ,no effects , no definition .
wires everywhere a total mess . go with HT-CT100 or HT-CT500 sound bars
you'll never go back to messy wiring 5 speakers sh*#"*T.

Soundbar-wise, Yamaha's are probably the best offerings on the market at the moment, over Polk etc. You may have to spend a bit more for a decent one, but they are actually pretty good at a convincing pseudo-surround effect as long as they are placed correctly in the room.

soundbars by the way rely quite heavily on the rooms acoustics to get the maximum benefits for your 'surround' effects.

with some soundbars, ive seen excellent performance, others mediocre.

i would tho prefer going with a yamaha soundbar as my first choice. bigger drivers (cant beat physics with the midrange performance from a measly 2 inch baffle versus a bigger one), better DSP's and quite the performer if you consider placing this in a bedroom, or as a secondary unit.

i have a ct500. I tried the CT100 as well but no matter how I tweaked it, I had trouble hearing dialogue when watching BD. The CT500 has no such problem and it sounds amazing, especially if you have a smaller room, like me. Games, BD, and music sound sweeeeet.

Hey you guys!!! OH my gosh! I thought I was the only one on this site w/ the HT-CT100! I'm so stoked! Haha! Just wanted to say HI! And I love my system. It suits my needs, I live in a very small 320 sq. ft. studio apartment in NYC surrounded closely by neighbors so I gotta do with what I have (although I can hear my movies in the hallway even on what I feel is a low setting), but no one's complained yet!

So to the OP - check out the CT100 and CT500. Also at AVS Forums, there's a gigantic thread dedicated to the CT 100 and I think you might find it very helpful. Some did find the dialogue/voice volume low as pingis said.

Wow..... my bedroom is the size of your apt but that is the tradeoff for living in a great city like NYC I guess. I watch a lot of HGTV type stuff, and I've seen some of those tiny apts made VERY nice and livable. I'm glad you found a sound system that works well with your space though. That can be a challenge for all of us that have less than ideal spaces to work with.

LOL! Yeah, everything in my apt has to be bi-functional. My couch folds flat to sleep, my desk sort of opens and closes to save space.

Funny thing is I actually payed off all my credit cards and am now saving money since moving to NYC. Living here as far as apartments go is expensive, but since I don't have a car (thanks to NYC subway) I think that's why I'm able to save - no car payment, no car insurance, no car gas - you'd be surprised adds up to a lot! Now if only I could curb my Blu addiction!
