I have a Vizio sound bar 5.1 system with a subwoofer and no receiver (left, center, & right are on the bar/left back and right back are separate speakers) and I was wondering if I would be able to notice the quality of a Blu-ray audio disc. I'm interested in INXS Kick 30th Anniversary which has Dolby Atmos and PCM. Would I be able to utilize any of these to experience the new mixes or is my setup basically going to make it to where it'll sound like the regular CD and I'd hear no difference.

If you can play blu-ray movies in surround, then you can play blu-ray audio discs in surround. It's not a seprate format even though it's been confusingly marketed as such. All blu-ray audio discs have to have some form of video even if it's just a black screen.
You also don't have to have an Atmos setup to listen. It should automatically fold down to your setup. I have a 7.1 non-Atmos setup and I get 7.1 TrueHD. On your setup it should just fold down to 5.1 TrueHD, if you can play TrueHD. If not, then it should play back the core 5.1 Dolby Digital. |
